ok things are shaping up for this clean up run of greenhorn creek ..
that's the good news
the bad news is that the union newspaper published a damaging story about greenhorn yeasterday and then part 2 of the problem at greenhorn today .
it's sure seems more than just coincedence that the story comes out just before the clean up run . there is a rebuttal being written to be given to the newspaper in the next fews days , hope they run it .
so at this time due to the high profile of this area we ask that you all be on your best behavior no guns , alcohol at a very minimum please , no crazy driving antics , this needs to be a very civilized event to show that the off road comunity cares about it's lands . i can guaranty that there will be greenies there watching . so it will only take one dumb act to undo all the good we are trying to acomplish .
we need your help in making the off road comunity look good .
thank you from all of us at

today i went to greenhorn with keven palmer from sierra extreme
to see just what we are up against during the clean up , and what i saw was sad in one place there had to be close to a few thousand shotgun shells and one very large pile of trash so keven and myself rummaged through the vile rotting trash to see if we could find a name on a letter or perhaps a bill from a utility,
well we found phone bills ,credit card bills a letter from the guys family . gotcha fawker we will be turning in the evidence to the proper people. the sad thing is a pile of trash that size would cost under 10 dollars to dump at the near by transfer station .

i would like to also thank all the people sponsoring this event
we will have a great raffle some of the items ..
sawsall
multipule tow straps
toytoa detroit locker
one set of ring and pinnions front and rear
drive line service
oil changes
diff armour
nerf bars
and the list goes on
tomorrow i will post the people who donated so graciously
if you would like to help out with this event with a donation of raffle prize please contact me at 530-477-0140

Alan, I was up there yesterday also and Dad showed me the articles :( not good, and all the politics involved with owners/Hansons/County etc. We (you) need to contact the Union stating when you first planned this clean-up so they see the work we do as pro-active and not a knee jerk reaction to the articles. They just might want to go down and witness our efforts first hand. I am looking forward to the weekend :)

Here are links to those two articles in The Union:

Article 1- 4/1/02 (http://tu.us.publicus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artikkel?SearchID=73094429102375&Avis=TU&Dato=20020401&Kategori=NEWS&Lopenr=104010012&Ref=AR)

Article 2- 4/2/02 (http://tu.us.publicus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artikkel?SearchID=73094429102375&Avis=TU&Dato=20020402&Kategori=NEWS&Lopenr=104020006&Ref=AR)

This is really nothing new, I've always wondered when this problem would start to surface and catch public attention. :(

I really have no proof or anything, but I have a feeling that the OHV'ers are probably NOT the ones primarily responsible for all the dumping and other BS going on down there. Its most likely just local lazy assholes.
This point (w/ some sort of believeable data or person to back it up) should probably be brought up to The Union.

We should at least be able to prove our cleanup plans by the threads archived here and at RCRC...

Alan -

About 5 -6 years ago, I lived down there and got my club (Toyotally Awesome Cruisers) to clean up the Bear River Area. The tough part was that it was the line between the counties, and F&G had jurisdiction on the river.

Long story short: We did it, and cleared 3 vehicles from the river and the banks, collected a mound of trash (I have pics). We took the vehicles (cut them up with a torch) to the wreckers just outside GV. The county was supposed to pick up the bags etc.

Results:

Monday AM I get a completely PO'd call from the county - seems they did not want to have to haul away everything we cleaned up.

The landowners by the river blocked all of the access trails (we get the garbage out and now they wanted us out).

I got hassles from the state over the VINs on the vehicles we turned in, and a minor neutral piece in the paper.

Moral of the story: we need to clean up, just don't expect anyone to thank you.

Have fun - I miss the area, especially Fordyce.

Ok, no good maps I could find but I can get you there. Actually gave these directions to a bud in Palm Springs and he made it there at 1:00am!

80 to Auburn
49 to Grass Valley
Idaho Maryland exit, turn Rt (last gas and munchies one block to your left)
Continue on Idaho Maryland up, up, up. Go straight through the stop signs (3) The road will lose the center lines, and houses get further apart.
Red Dog Rd turn Rt (if you hit gravel you just missed it)
Follow Red Dog all the down to the water and your there.

Bring your sunscreen and your gloves, lets get it! :smokin:

ive always been jealous of the kind of trail cleanup that goes on in the west. in my local club, i propose the idea every time that we meet and its always "yeah, thats a great idea. who wants to help?" "i would but i have to ___________"

and then i tell them that before they know it the only place where they can wheel is on private land owned by a wheeler and they dont believe me. lazy bastards, sometimes i lose my faith in humanity :(
