OK....check engine light came on...blahblahblah...ran the engine check...says knock censor is bad. (This is my girlfriends 90 4runner with a 3VZE in it) Question is??? Where the hell is it?? Is it the censor inbetween the heads on the top of the block under the intake??? could not find it in the wonderful Haney's manual.

(I bet this is going to be at least a $100 part from Toyota:( )

Bonjour,

The knock sensor is just where you said. Upon Toy mechanics, most of the time the trouble is caused by the wire between the knock sensor itself and the connector (near the throttle body).

I had head gasket's service campaign and they changed the wire just in case. But! But I got the knock sensor ECU code after that change.

They had to lift the intake manifold and change the knock sensor, the brand new wire. And trouble code disappears.

Have fun!

P.O.

P.S.: By the way, the knock sensor was back ordered for 3 weeks since it lasts long.

Yeah I changed mine when I did my Rebuild, but I routined the wire out the back of the engine, and made some longer wires. I'm thinking this wil be a better route.

Yea, I looked at that stupid wire harness when I did my motor over and replaced it just in case.. Kinda a pain in the arse to change...
