im regearing my 8.8 to 5.13, ive got a good pattern and was about to button it up. so i checked some write ups quick before i started and read that the 8.8 is supposed to have an oil slinger.
so i checked and I dont have one in my install kit, and there wasnt one on the previous setup (4.88)
so a few questions..
what does it look like, could I mistake it for just a normal shim?
anyone have a pic?
can I run without it (although apprently i have been for the last year or so)
any info would be appreciated...

not sure if they are the same but maybe this helps, i never worked on a 8.8 and never even knew it had a oil slinger

yeah its smaller than the oil slingers found on dana axles, and it goes after the outer pinion bearing...
heres a pic showing the location that I found..

well i called ranys and they said they dont supply an oil slinger in their master install kits becuase the 8.8 doesnt use one.
weird.
my previous install didnt have one either and it didnt die, so im just going to go ahead and button it up without it.

They don't use one - you're fine

I had one in my kit, don't remem from who though. And there was one stock at least up to 86.
It has a purpose, which i am assuming you know and i wouldn't take the chance running with out one, of course you will find out as the seal will prolly get pushed out

They will get enough oil because it's a low pinion axle. I think slingers are important on HP axles only.
