Hey guys! Again, I apologize for my ignorance on my last post. Anyways, I've gotten some speakers for my '74 40. The rears are easy, but ther front. I'm putting a new stock size speaker in the OEM glove box mount for the original style. However, I don't know where to put the other front spearker. Doest any body have any ideas? Has anyone done this? I'm not interested in cutting ANYTHING. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Shaun

Mine are just sorta sitting on the floor in the footwells...

If that doesn't work, try putting them up against the inside lip of the body between the doors and the kick vents.

get one of those long skinny speakers, and bolt it to the firewall and support (the one that holds the door hinges.) kinda hard to explain, i dont have pics the rig is up north.

we put some metal grating over ours so they wouldn get kicked in.

I'm just going to find some cheapo speakers that sound good, and hopefully some marine ones that are water proof, and just mount the front ones behind the dash...
I don't know how a '74 dash differs from a '69 but its just a plate of sheet metal that you can attache stuff to the back side. The previous owner rivited a speaker mount on each side by the kick vents that I might use for CB and a Ham radio...Thinking about putting the CD player in the ash tray space...should I, or should I save that, and put it in the consule that I need to build?

Put it in the console, use the ashtray to hold all the 'spare parts' bolts that you took off and can't figure out where to put back on...or is that just my problem? :D :D

In my 72 I installed some of the newer lower dash pads that leave an opening for a radio then I just cut one into the dash in the stock location I installed 5 1/4" speakers in the rear corners of the tub and 3 1/2"s in the dash next to the gauges and glove box then I built a special sub box under the center console for a little 8" sub sense the other speakers were so small, it turned out nice and I can even hear it doing 60 with TSL's I can send pictures by E-mail If your interested.
