Looks wicked. How did that scout d44 work out in the front? Did you end up cutting and rewelding the axle tubes? What spindles did you go with chev of scout? any help would be great. where are you in b.c

Action shots are comin still have lots more work (tranny/t-case/gears and lockers)..

Yes i did the coils my self.. And i used Chevy knuckles for the hysteer...no cutting of axles i put them in full width.

Do you think the leafs in the front will work well enough to balance out your rig? And what type of material did you use for you links? Couldn't tell are those Johny Joints on your links or bushings?

Do you think the leafs in the front will work well enough to balance out your rig?

They are CJ's they flex pretty good...
Of course coils would be better --- HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry J!

And what type of material did you use for you links? Couldn't tell are those Johny joints on your links or bushings?

The material for the links is schedule 40 tubing (oooooooo, ahhhhhhhhh, gasp -- hey it works dam fine so :flipoff
J used Aurora rod ends (heim) joints from Spidertrax in both ends of his center link, in the frame end of his outer link (the other end is Energy Suspension bushings for vibration dampening duties) and his panhard has rod ends in each.

I think that is everything. Post if you want to know more.

Hey JAYZUK! What brakeline are you using to mate up to the ScoutII brakelines? Did you replace the hardline in the rear as well? Pretty cool setup indeed. Im planning on something similar, but for my ScoutII, whats the length of those coils at ride heigth & where did you get the coil seats from?-RED

What did you do for the rear prop shaft?

Post some pics of the buildup. I'd like to have some visuals, i'm doing the same swap, but coils up front and springs in the rear! Did you cut and turn the knuckles? for the spring setup up front, did you outboard the mounts? What all was mandatory to do the swap?

Thanks

Looks awesome!!!

Having leafsprings up front will help out, but I worry that your coil springs are too far inboard and may sacrifice stability. Any signs of that yet?

I must say, it was a bit of a shock seeing these pics up here again. Unfortunately for Jay, he had to sell the rig unfinished. Fortunate for me as I was able to buy it from him and it now is sitting in my garage. I picked it up right at the begining of January and just started buying parts like crazy for it! I've been waiting on lots of parts and things which have delayed the buildup but I assure you it will be running very soon. The motor is going in next weekend (if the parts I was promised are here this week) and the drivetrain to follow. I'm throwing in a 1600block with a twin-cam head in, with kick tranny and t-case with OTT adaptor to toy case with 4.7's in the toy case. The OTT adaptor took a few weeks to get here because they are very backlogged but was worth the wait. It looks very sweet. I'm a bit worried of the rear case coming close to the centre link but I think it will work out. I'll post lots of pics when it's done. As for the tire size, I ordered some 37" boggers and I'm waiting on those as well. When Rudezuk got his it really got me thinkin'...... and don't worry people, the sawzall will get lots of use to make the tires fit.....

As for the suspension questions, well, I didn't build it so I can't really say why some things were done because in all honesty I would have done some things differently. But I will test and see how it works then make changes to suite my needs. I'm thinking the coils might be a little soft but we will only have to wait and see.

You ought to see the Slinky on www.sierrarockcrawlers.com It uses aerostar coils front and rear on a willys. The action pix are good and the axles can become perpendicular to each other. Sam did a killer job on it and you guys should go see it. It'll be at the Con this year also. :D :D :D

One pic of it is under the hammered turkey run 2k
It's not the one I was talking about, but it shows the axles twisted up. It is on the second page of pix and is all the way down at the bottom. It starts on the homepage and the pic of the rolled truck is the link.

It's been a while since those pictures were on top of the pile on this board.

As for latteral stability, it actually is pretty good (better than leaves and inboarded upper mounts) in terms of body roll. When we looked at building the coils for the rear they were too long to just go to the frame (like the old coil set up with "stock" diffs) so it was either inboard or outboard. Jay decided on in board for more flex. The reason it doesn' have a lot of body roll is the shock placement and angle. The shocks are run from the front of the rear diff to outside the frame rail (READ not inboarded!) on a forward angle. Looking at pic 3 and 4 they would be mounted outside the link mounts on the diff and run vertically to the frame with a slight forward slant (say 25*). This eliminated body roll and made the ride very plush (maybe a little too plush). Like I said to Fullwidth (the guy who bought Jayzuk's rig-- aka Caltow) RS9's would take care of that with their adjustability.

ROOT Moose

The Rear Shaft will be a yota front (with cv) with an "adapter" Ujoint for the spicer 1310 yoke (if you're reading this Fullwidth you'd better call me as J wants to sell it)

Brake lines
The stock metric and imperial lines will actually thread together (believe it or not) and don't leak? Miracles of modern technology or a complete fluke it worked so we didn't mess with it.

Knuckles
Yes we had to cut and turn them. What a PITA!

The Ramp,
That's what happens when its your birthday and you and your buds get a little buzzed.

Cost of the diffs.

$50 for both diffs complete  :flipoff2:
$100 for the 5.38's
and the paint was free

Here's the kicker that's all in Canuck bucks so times that by .6 :flipoff2:

We hadn't got to lockers yet (cash or a lack of it) but Full width has bought detroits for both ends.

I think that's everything. We're going to help Full Width out to get that thing going soon. Then you'll see the action shots.

If anyone feels inclined to post a picture for me I can show you a picture of Jzuks new project. It's the :nuke:

So what is vibration like? Is this machine driven at highway speeds? I'm thinking I'm going to slap my ARB'ed Scout 44s into the LWB and am a little worried about vibration - I don't have a way to tow.

Hey there dave. I measured up the OTT adaptor and t-cases and I don't there is a chance in hell that driveshaft will fit in the rear but maybe it'll work in the front... we'll have to talk.

And I did forget to mention that it did come with the 5.38's like dave mentioned and I bought new carriers and detroits along with set-up kits for the gears. I would have got an arb for the front but school starts in a few months and I gotta be careful with the ole' funds..... later

Nice Eye Dangerber!
It is a 2.0L 16v in the jetta! This is Jay's new rig (for now) as the better half forced a sale of the zuk (Fullwidth you lucky bastard!)
We're just about to cage the Jetta (why not?)
It's got racing coilover's front and rear, vented disks front and rear, and a slew of other neat stuff. Those low profs do give some mean traction on the rocks but the side wall flex leaves a little to be desired (LOL). A turbo is in the works...

I don't know what it is with these BC boys though, going from zuks to rice rockets but it seems to be a trend. :barf:

Anyhow,
The last pic is J's truck before the d44's and stuff, really the last major off highway trip it went on.

Driveline vibes
None to report but it wasn't driven all that often after the transition. With a LWB I doubt it will give you trouble.

Thanks for posting those pics UZI, it'll make him happy!

He's talking about another project... in the form of a buggy with a dana 60 rear, a 350, a doubler 203/205, and a 44 (HD) front (just 'cause we have them kicking around). We'll see though.

ummm... yeah, it's the ott kicker to toy "mated" adaptor... and dave I'll talk to on the phone about the driveshaft.. either way I'll probably buy it just so I can use it on the front or something. I'm gonna guestimate about 12-15 inches but don't quote me on that.
And you'lll definately have to slap some sense into Jay... he needs another sammy... and I am a lucky bastard for picking up his rig.. you guys obviously spent a lot of time and effort on the suspension.
