hey im looking to get an 89 toyota front driveshaft to use for the rear of my 84 LWB truck. i am going to have it lengthen to convert to one piece and have my current as a spare. will the flanges match up or will i have switch them out? any help would be greatly appreciated.

It [ifs front d-shafts]does not have enough movement to be used in the rear. HighAngle DriveLine can clearence it for you so it has enough angle though.

On IFS front diff does not move, so the u-joint made for them has very little angle, so trying to use it in the rear, it will bind if it will even bolt up at that angle. and you need to change the rear flange on the t-case with one like the front. last I heard was $139 to clearence it and retube it longer, but that was over a year ago, could have gone up or down in $$$, call jess ate HighAngle, link all over this site.

I used my CV front IFS shaft in the rear, BUT I also pointed the pinion right at the tcase as well. I also had to flip-flop my flanges since I used the rear for the front and the front for the rear. :D Cost me $120 localy to have the front made longer (to go in the rear) and I sent my rear (to go in the front) off to Jess and it was $268 to my door for a 12" long travel work of art :D I have some info on my website under SAS info.

You need to see how much angle at the CV end you need and whether the CV in your IFS shaft has enough to handle it without binding. Many of the IFS CVs only have a 22 degree angle limit, while the solid axle front CVs are more like 35 degrees. If your rear angle wills tay well under 22, then it may be fine, but invest in an good angle gauge and see what it says. I'm running a CV in the rear that was opened up a bit to around 28 degrees and it works fine. Before that it was right at its binding limit when I raised the rear axle off the ground, now I have a few degrees of breathing room.

WRONG!!! I have an un-modified IFS CV driveshaft (simply re-tubed for length) in the rear of my SWB 4runner and it works fine. He has a LWB, so he will be "extra" fine. ;)

Dual cases and a SWB would probably need a modified CV though or one from a straight axle truck that already has more angle.

FWIW, I believe you can also use the CV from the stock 2-peice rear driveline and just have it lengthened to fit as a one-piece line. I KNOW it works for the '89-up trucks, not sure about the earlier ones, but I don't see why not.

some ifs shafts actually do flex and some don't - you have to check to see what you have -Jess:D

That's it! :flipoff2: ;)

Jess prolly knows better than all of us though, so maybe I have one of them "flexy" IFS shafts. :D

It does flex a lot less than the '85 front shaft I've got in the garage though...

I just picked mine up today. It was 133 to have it retubed. I used the front cv from and 85 and used the female spline from a 93 rear and I have no angle problems at all. Pinion pointed at the t-case. I had to move the front flange to the rear and redrill the holes to fit the 14mm big bolts. Fits great.
