: why flex is important
M.Martian 10-08-2001, 07:17 PM Here is a little example of why flex is important. These pics are taken from the same area on the right-hand trail going up to competition hill at Hollister. I did still lift a tire with the suspension but it was only 2 inches off the ground, not 2 feet.

I THINK FLEX IS IMPORTANT! HA HA HA
mudlite 10-09-2001, 08:47 AM But which is more important, Flex or a locker. Will flex get you further? what does flex do? will a tire that is barely touching the ground give you anymore traction? Is there too much Flex?
fatkid 10-09-2001, 09:38 AM I couldn't live with out them both, and I've seen too much flex. Flex gives you stability, however its not all about flex. I kind of think it's more important to have a balanced rig. Although you have to some kind of working suspension.

ShadowZuk 10-09-2001, 09:54 AM Heres a combination of flex, lockers, and most importantly driver knowing the rig
Kids don't do this at home!
This is a good example of the suspension keeping things stable.

Actually, it varies on the situation, but the one in the pics, a locker would not have done me any good when stock. The hole that was eating the passenger front end still had more to go. If I would have continued forward, I would have flopped it on it's side.
On another note though, I'm going to be throwing in a welded rear end pretty soon.

That works for me. I still haven't figured out just when I'll get to put the rear end in. Depending on how it handles on the road, my brother might be welding his rear end up.

This is why flex is truly important if it wasnt for good travel, that Zuk would be on its side

I didn't say flex wasn't important. I asked which was more important, flex or a locker.
Lets ask it this way. Which would go further, an open flex monger, or a stiff locked truck?
fatkid 10-14-2001, 07:16 PM Lockers, if the stiff suspension is some what balanced.

If it wasn't for good travel, he wouldn't have a poser shot is all.

Depends where you are going. Are you doing all rocks, all mud, just trail riding or a bit of it all?
Went trail riding with 5 vehicles today 3 locked 2 open, the open went everywhere but the extreme places, cause they had a decent flex for open diff trucks. Sometimes they used flex sometimes momentum.

So the locked trucks did better than?
poppycock 10-14-2001, 09:50 PM why not just have flex and lockers?
