ok here we go

with or without the speedo cable attached, the truck makes the grinding sound.

in the morning i'm taking it to toyota and having a quick look at it..

but in the meantime, a better description of the problem is that anytime i'm in 4th or 5th and SOMETIMES in 3rd, and i push the clutch in or let off the gas it makes a progressively louder over time grinding sound.

i don't know if it's the tranny or one of my t-cases or my adapter plate?

i've always assumed that tranny t-case problems would be a LOT louder than this and hinder the performance of the truck.

it doesn't seem to lose any momentum when i'm going 50mph+

i searched for everything i could think of "grinding" "tranny" "t-case" "noise" etc. and combinations and nothing very relevant came up. :bender:

It sounds a lot like what my truck did after lifting it. It turns out it was the drive line angle. I had a c/v joint put on the drive line. If you want to check it out you can put some spacers(like 1" or more) between the frame and t-case crossmember and take it for a spin and see if it goes away. If so you need to get a c/v joint on your shaft or fix your drive line angle in some sort of other way. And also if this is the problem toyota probably won't be able to figure it out they will say it is the tranny or something ot t-case.

that sounds like the typical driveshaft vibe problem you're describing to me.

my rear driveshaft is fine, it's only 41" long but with the dual cases, for whatever reason all previous vibes i had when it was 47+" long have gone away. it used to vibrate a LOT. i think the springs have sagged sufficiently now.

i think this is definately something in the drivetrain ie. tranny or tcases..it even SOUNDS like it's coming from right below the shifter boots. it doesn't cause any vibrations. when i had a vibe problem it used to shake the shit out of my rear view mirror and tailgate window. now those don't happen. it's smooth over 60-70mph. (not that i drive that fast much)

Nope had zero vibrations just the noise like you are describeing it sounded like gears grinding and it sounded like it was coming from the shifter boot area. Put it on blocks ran it up to 45 mph ( if I recall it was from like 45,50 to about 60,65 that it made the niose) when it usually started making the noise sounded like the tranny or t-case so I replaced the My third cause this was the first trip I had had it on since I changed out the gears. noise still there had a tranny lieing around so I replaced it. noise still there called a friend then marlin both said if it was in 3rd , 4th , and 5th gear it was probably my driveline (Iknow that when the front bearing went out on my tranny it sounded similar but that was only in 3rd and I think 5th). Sure as hell it was the driveline about 3days work and all it took was a new drive line. Strange I know .
I am no expert but I bet that is it. If not the problem post your outcome I would be interested in the results. Hope I could offer some help.

crazy

sounds like exactly what i'm having..just that these are such different vibes than what i had before, and now my driveshaft is way worse (shorter) i'm getting my front one made tommorow - i'll take it into the drivetrain place tommorow and see if they think i need a CV or what..

thanks for your advice

Did you ever find out what caused your noise?
