Anyone had any experience with coil overs?
Brand preference?
Price?
Websites?

I am looking to go coil overs in my cruiser.

My friend put some Sway-a-way coilovers in the rear of his CJ7. I think they are 2"x16". I have ridden with him the first time he tested them out in JV in Cali. They worked great and seemed to do really well.
Although, I have heard great things about Bilstein and King coliovers. Sway-a-ways are just the least expensive of the bunch. I think that the most critical point is getting the correct size and damping rate spring for your vehicle. Then setting up the correct angles really helps so that the shocks work the way they are supposed to do.
Here in the states, I think that Avalanche Eng has the best prices on Sway-a-ways. As far as outside the US, I really can't help you. I am pretty sure that Bilstein products are made in Germany, so maybe you could find a distributor nearby. HTH Thomas

Thanks for that.

I have looked into the Sway a ways. They will cost me almost $3000AUS plus coils and shipping for the 4 in 2.5x18.
There is a place in Australia that I found that makes them, but they are only 14inch and only $10-20 cheaper.

I have been searching everywhere for them!

Bilsteins= big bucks!!

Waiting for Doetsch Tech to get back to me on a price length etc. Any experience, heard anything about them??

SkyKing by SkyJacker is only a kit type coil over for Jeeps isnt it? I cant much info about them. But being SkyJacker I am thinking big $$!!

There is a place here is Australia that does conversion on Rancho 9000's they want $700 for a pair plus coils. I dont think they will be that good because they are only crappy tin shocks compared to a billet aluminium, purpose built coil over like the Sway a way.

I think the Sway a ways from Avalanche are looking pretty good, a bit expensive but I am only going to build it this last time!!

Putting 80series cruiser diffs under it. Scrapping my current link set up and going to 2 lower trailing arms and an upper a frame, front and rear. I want to put the 18inch Sway a ways under it.

I think I should be happy with it by then!!

Picking up the diffs this weekend!! CANT WAIT!!!

P.S I did do a search before I posted it but couldnt come up with too much. One post I found was similar to this, posted in the General Section, didnt get too many responses. I dont like the General Section so I posted it here hoping to get some ideas from the GOOD crowd!!

Wow!!!!
$3000 AUS, so roughly that breaks down to $1500 US. Not bad, but still really expensive. Yeah, I know that Bilsteins are expensive, but from what I have heard, they are some of the best.
Have you found a vendor for King Coilovers? They are supposed to be really good as well.
Doetsch Tech makes some good stuff as well. I am not really sure on pricing for their stuff, but I know that their products are really well made.
That company that wants to convert the Rancho 9000's doesn't sound like a good idea to me, especially for $700 dollars for a pair. It would really work for what you want anyway since Rancho's don't come anywhere near 18"'s.
If you would like for me to do some checking up on what my friend paid for his shocks from Avalanche, I will. That way you don't have to be making the long distance phone calls.
That is sweet that you are putting 80 series axles under your rig. I would love to do that to mine, but 80 series axles around here are kind of hard to find and somewhat expensive, especially for a college student.
If you need any help with anything from this end, don't hesitate to ask. Anything to help out a fellow Cruiser owner. HTH Thomas

It would be cool if you could get some pricing for me.

I am after the 2.5 inch 18 inch travel shocks with the single rate coil over kit.

The price isnt too bad if it is good quality!!

I dont like the idea of converting a standard shock to a coil over. They arent made to take the COMPLETE weight of the vehicle constantly. I think over time they will break.

My 80 series diffs= $600Aus for the pair including centres, axles, discs, calipers absolutely everything!!

Maybe we could come to some purchasing arrangment so I can get out of paying duties when they land in Australia?

E-mail me at astroby@acay.com.au

I will let you know what I am going on about!!
