I'm looking to upgrade my F-150 (Dana 44 5 lug) brake calipers and was looking around when one of the guys suggested this:
I've never looked at this myself but you may be able to swap the caliper bracket and the caliper from a 3/4 ton Dana 44 and use the dual piston calipers in the front. I don't know if the offset on the brake rotor or the diameter of the 1/2 brake rotor is correct but the bracket should be a bolt on.
Can you run the dual piston calipers with 15" rims?
You can do it w/2.5" bs. Otherwise, if you wanna use "normal" backspacing opinions vary depending upon who you talk to. YJTJ sent me pics of the grinding he did to fit wheels w/4.25" bs, and it was a lot! I wouldn't really be comfortable w/it personally. Others in the General forum have reported doing as little grinding as poss to fit wheels w 3.5" bs and still having failures even tho "it looked safe." Personally I wouldn't risk it, like some people said how do you explain to the parents that you killed their daughter 'cause your brakes failed but "they looked safe." I don't mean to be a wet blanket, it's your call I guess. You can get custom bs from summitoffroad.com or rockstomper me thinks.

The problem is that I already have the 5 on 5 1/2" wheels with 3 5/8" backspacing.
Looks like it will be the stock single pistons for me...definitley don't want to grind down calipers... didn not like the dead kid scenario.....
Wilwood is sooo expensive and you have to fab your own custom caliper brackets to use their calipers.
3.5 inches is the backspacing i ran. im not sure whch pics i sent you, the pics of the 3/4 ton knuckles with the 1/2 ton brakes i believe are the pics you are talking about.

U sent me pics of Ford dual-piston calipers ground down. It was, I thought, on a D60 front. I know you said 4.25" bs, maybe we had some mis-communication
i have never ground a dual piston ford caliper. nor have i run 15s on a ford 1 ton yet. i did grind a chevy maybe thats the pics i sent you. and i dont own any rims with more than 3.5 backspacing cept the stock tj rims on my wifes jeep. i have always run 3.5 maybe i said you could get away with the 4.25 dunno cant remember

I'm running 15's on my front 60
2.5" b/s is all you can get without grinding, & looking at the caliper, I don't like where I'd have to grind. I have thought about changing to 8" wide wheels to narrow the truck up a little though. 42x15" swampers if that makes any difference
