: Dana 60 and 14 Bolt in a Scrambler

I acquired a 60 14 combo from a Chevy. It was a duallie set up. I would like to install them on my Scrambler, and I'd like to avoid shooting my foot off with stupid mistakes, so I'm soliciting advice.

Questions:

Currently, I sit on a sprung under setup with a 4" lift. I fit into my garage with about 2" to spare, so I can't get much taller. Would a spring over conversion onto some YJ springs exceed the lift I get with a 4" spring under setup?

The 14 bolt is the narrow axle, 63" WMS - the front has the duallie drive flanges in place, I gather there is a 4 to 4 1/2" difference in width after I machine off the duallie flange?

Without narrowing the front, I need to mount spring hangars outside the frame rails?

Overall, I need advice. Thanks!

Would a spring over conversion onto some YJ springs exceed the lift I get with a 4" spring under setup? yes. the tubes are larger around on the 14 bolt. i would guess you are going to be looking at close to 5.5-6" of lift with the YJ's. no way around it. coupled with the fact that (im assuming here) you will go to a larger tire. if your not gonna go larger why upgrade to the 1 tons?

My YJ is spring over with Waggy springs in the front and XJ springs in the rear (from what I understand, basicly the same height as stock YJ leaves---just offset pins for more wheelbase---your 8 doesn't need). 14 bolt and Dana 60 front. I'm at 24.5" to the frame with half worn 38" SX tires.

I don't know how big a 4" spring under lift is so all I can offer is the frame measurement.

MBryson - thanks, I measured my rig at 21 1/2' the the framerail - thats gonna be too damn tall to fit in my garage unless I drive it in on flats.

FYI, although I am new to this board, I have known "Thump93YJ" for quite some time and can tell you that if you ignore him he will go away. If this fails tell him about a bar hosting free beer anywhere within his area code and he will be gone quicker than a jackrabbit on a date.

If you do the spring over stay away from stock yj springs. you will trash them in one good trail ride.
Machine the flnges on the front and go for it. It doesnt need to stay in a garage anyways does it?

If he leaves it outside, his wife will use it for a planter. :D

I've only got a 7 ft. door. Mine barely fits. It might not with a top on......

Use another set of shorter wheels and tires or install some quick deflate valves to let air out to get it in and out of the garage. :flipoff2:
