I saw this while recently scanning the rec.backcountry newsgroup. I unfortunately missed the lead in, but this guy sounds like a real nutcase.

Subject: Group Poll

Ok, so I read muskie's post and looked up the Blue Ribbon Coalition on
the web (http://www.sharetrails.org) Lets suppose they got their way and got
ATV, Motorbike, 4WD access to <insert your favorite wilderness area here>
I'll say the Northern Sierra for myself.
How many of you would be willing to at least consider (or support a
group who carried out..) some form of violence to discourage motorized
vehicle usage? By violence, I *don't* mean causing grevious bodily harm or
stringing pianowire across trails. I'm thinking maybe getting together with
some people to construct a few impromptu 'speedbumps' or small ditches on
blind sections of the trail? Strategic placement of a few of those little
metal tire busting thingies during your hike? If yes, be inventive! If no,
explain. [:-)]

OK Peter you made me work at this one a little to get a link ;) You should find it here on the Google groups access:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&threadm=a8eo56%244jg%241%40slb4.atl.mindspring.net&prev=/groups%3Fnum%3D25%26hl%3Den%26group%3Drec.backcoun try%26start%3D0

Hope that works. Other wise you could go to google groups and open the rec.backcountry group and look for the thread Group Poll.
