For those of you who have made your own 1/4 eliptics, what did you use to clamp them together on the side mounted up near the t-case? I imagine that the leaves would be clamped byu the regular center bolt if the hole was retaind, but do you clamp them together with anythign else? I see some use a type of boxed end...

Anyone got pics?

Right now I am bench building since I dont have my garage cleaned out yet(moving into a new house)... My bro has a custom framed Jeep with fullsize drivetrain..... I am thinking about building somethign similar.... He is going to go cooilovers int he fron and 1/4's in the rear and I am goign either leaves or regular coils in the front and 1/4's in the rear with a similar frame(when I build it) and set-up... Rob will be happy since he was riding me at Lisbon to get rid of the fullsize and get a Jeep! :)

This will clamp the springs against the frame from the bottom. A plate will be welded to the top of the frame and both will be drilled for 2 bolts on each side. The frame will be notched into from the bottom as well. :rasta:

Hey convertiyota, if I'm not being completely ignorant here, it seems as though your "frame" end of your springs will not be able to swivel. Is this correct. I see this as giving some slight tension to keeping the wheels from dropping without resistance aside from what your shocks will do for it. I've seen both the swivel box and the type that you are doing ( I think) are there any pros and cons of each? Anybody?

I'm going 1/4 elliptic rear probably this summer. That combined with a really nice set of shocks (read $$$$$) will give me the ride I'm looking for hopefully.

Yep, mine will be hard mounted to the frame. From what I've read, most people who built the swivel into them did not like them. The springs alone allow for enough droop without the pivoting. I remember reading a lot of complaints about the avalanche kit when it first came out (it had the swivel, not sure if it does anymore). HTH

Here's an example: Plenty of droop with no pivot.
