I'm looking for hydraulic steering information, i have been checking the net but cannot seem to find what i'm looking for, theres lots about the "rock ram" hydraulic help steering. But I want the fully hydraulic "orbitrol kind"? -Is there anyone who has a nice URL for me? What brands are there in this?

How big of a cylinder do i need for 44" boggers on 2.5T axles (Swedish axles btw, stock vacuum actuated lockers both front and rear) -lenghtwise/piston diameter and so on.

Any tips/urls appreciated!

Thanks, have been reading up now :) -Theres loads and loads of stuff :)

As i get it custom seems to be the only true way to get my 100% hydraulic steering.

A pal who currently are putting a cj5 body on top of hes unimog bought a complete steering setup with wheel/steering/column/orbital valve/pump/ram from some tractor junkyard. I think it's from a harvester of some kind. Anyway it's all bosch stuff.

-Anyway he's come to the conclusion that hes not gonna use it and has it and wants 250$ for the lot.

Only problem as it seems is that the piston on the ram (hydraulic cylinder) seems a bit on the small side? Converted from mm its:

~0.7" thick (18mm)
~8.3" long (210mm) (piston travel)

As i stated earlier i'm going for 2.5T axles and 44" boggers, can this seemingly puny pushrod deal with that?

no. i am using a 2 .25" inch ram and you will want at least a 2" for full hydro

He is probably talking the shaft size, not the piston dia.

I would imagine your 2.25 ram is around a inch or so...still might be a bit small with the .7. Tractors often use linkage, instead of direct pressure on the steering (for the ram)

My 2x8 ram has a shaft size of 1.125. 0.7 might be kinda small. Maybe take your buddy's junk and take the ram back to the j-yard and see if you can swap it for a slightly larger one. 8" stroke is pretty typical for most of the steering setups I've seen. I had to limit mine to 7" though.
