This search engine rules:

http://car-part.com/

You can find any part for anything you need. Last time i searched for 2.7's and 3.4's (I too had a dream of a tacoma engine swap, then I woke up, but more power to you if thats your plan) I found like 50 engines, ranging from $400 to $1500. Give it a try.

Oh I wish I could affoard an engine swap right now. This search for an engine was for a friend who has a 99 tacoma. Not for one to put in my 81. Although one of these days when the Tundra's aren't worth so much I may check into one of the v8 motors. That is what would be sweet. And would be keeping it toyota!

There was a guy from IA selling one in the for sale section a while back. I think it's still there. I'll look around for it and get back with ya

Sorry, couldn't find it...might be out there somewhere. I forget his user name

thanks for the replies, I did find what appeared to be a good one on ebay for a good price, but it has five days left so who knows.

BTW how did someone manage to destroy a 99 3.4? Just curious is all.

haha I don't have a clue how he destroyed it, that is what I am wondering. I don't know if it didn't have enough oil in it, or if he was muddin and held it to the floor till it popped or what. I do know this guy is not the easiest on his stuff and has a heavy foot. I had heard these were excellant motors compared to the older 3.0's and such. From what I understand he completely grenaded the motor and shot a rod through the block

oh well, his money and not mine to blow I guess. I have a feeling he will ease up on the next one after this hehe.

BTW, I checked out car-part website, and found several SHORT blocks, but not a complete long block. Do they have them, or complete motors? I also noticed some of them had an unknown condition listed as well. Would not be very cool to pay to ship a motor that was bad :rasta:

I got 18 pages of results when I searched the entire country for 3.4 L engines. They started around $3500 for a complete drop in engine with low miles. As for the condition, I would look for results from salvage yards that are near you so you can physically inspect the engine yourself. I would never purchase something like this without some form of garuntee that It is in good condition. A lot of these engines have milage listed. It just a matter of picking up the phone to get some more information.

:rasta: :rasta: ok I admit, I didn't scan every category. Thanks dirtgreg. Looks like they are pretty expensive like I figured. The local dealer wanted 5,000 for one installed

autozone want's 3000 for a new long block, and I saw several on car-parts for around 2000 (in tn).

Looks like dude will be coming off the hip plenty!!
