About the only wheeling there is the Broken Arrow trail. You could do it with a stocker. The Jeep tours dominate the area. All the land is pretty much closed off to open use. Maybe you could rent something and go exploring though. The majority of hardcore trails are within an hour drive of downtown Phoenix. Sorry this isn't much help. When you trip nears, contact me and we could possibly show you some of the good stuff.

Hey!

Good choice! It will be perfect fall weather in Oct.

Here's a Link (http://shop.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=17DKR34YZ4&mscssid=0SW5RDV8BW208MUQXQB8D5B0NUCH9NH4&isbn=0966497635) to the Charles Wells Guide on AZ-

He list several senic trips in the Sedona area. I have been on most of them, and the scenery is spectacular, but the wheeling itself is pretty easy. It is worth the time to do if ya enjoy the Red Rock terrain. It would be a lot of fun for you to rent a Jeep to see some of the area. I'd be happy to show ya around, it's only an hour away. Sorry, my Yota is a two seater only- but we can always get more people to go along.

Also close by to Sedona is the Verde Canyon railroad excursion. First class tickets are around $50.00 apiece- the train runs thru a beautiful canyon unacsessable to vehicular travel other than the train. first class seating includes snacks, an open flat observation car, and a bar/lounge car. You will probably see Bald Eagles, and other wild life.

Also, as Jack mentioned, your close (1-1/2 hour south) to the great trails off Table Mesa road north of Phx. I'm sure some of the guy's would be more than happy to get a group togeather to show ya some of the better AZ. trails too-

keep us informed- we're always lookin' for an excuse to wheel :D

Make sure you check out a vortex while you are there, and bring your birkenstocks.

Actually, We took a pink jeep tour with our kids - the sunset tour - and it was pretty nice. Lucked out and got a green one. Sedona is beautiful but I got a little tired of people explaining which crystals did what.

If you're a golfer, Sedona Golf Resort (f that's the right name) is sweet golfing! Little pricey, though. I think around $150.

oh yeah-

forgot to mention that- we call'm woo-woo's. (that's the sound the Alien's Spaceship that dropped u'm off there makes) There is a group of "alternative lifestyle", kinda like redirected hippie spirtualist who for some strange, unexplainable reason, believe that Sedona is home "To the Most Powerful Engery Vortex in the Known Universe" or some such thang- Their generaly harmless unless you disturb their cyrstals- My brother-inlaw is a Deputy Sheriff, and has some great stories about'm.

Seriously, it's a real scenic area. You will require a Nat. Forest Service "Red Rock Pass" that is available locally to permit you to stop and enjoy the sights.

Went there a few years ago on vacation with the wife and did the funky pink jeep tour thing, wasn't too bad, but obviously no hard core trail riding with those guys....

The best part to me was when we got to the top of one of the mountains, hills (whatever ya wanna call it), we got a real good view of a ton of land that was John Waynes and they explained alot of the old westerns were filmed in that area, silly I know, but I'm a huge JW fan and love the old westerns, and it was cool to see the thousands of acres he used to own...

The town is an artsy fartsy town with nothing but tourist shops, but the scenery is wonderful....

I imagine if you had a rental jeep or something, you might be able to talk the Pink Jeep guys into an after hours tour or something ,,,never know...

Pretty country. The jeep tours are :rainbow: . If you have your jeep, it would be nice to check things out. Helicopter ride was awesome.

I just went on a trail run in Sedona few weeks ago. The trails aren't too hard at all. 7 of us ran broken arrow, soldier pass and boyton pass. We followed some maps in a book. If you want more info, e-mail me and I can put you in contact with the guy with the book. We could run a stock truck through all of them with little difficulty. The last one was a pretty cool gas line that was pretty rough. I have a locker in the rear made it no problem but, the open guys had a little trouble, nothing to worry about though.

We were in Sedona last year with our Jeep. What we did was stop at the Chamber of Commerce and get the brochures for the Pink Jeep tours then asked the chamber staff for directions to the various places. They were very helpful.

None of the trails (just backroads) were very difficult but seeing some of the Indian ruins was interesting.
