i put my front d/s on last night and i heard a low humming, the faster i went the louder and faster the noise was, i took off my front d/s today and the noise was gone, before i took the shaft off though i was messing with it and i found that it had a little play in the joint pictured below, is that normal? is that where the noise is coming from? thanx, Jamie

Ummmm, first thought would be why is your front drive shaft spinning on the street???????

From the look of that driveshaft I would say YJ, TJ or XJ

Slop in the slipjoint ain t no big deal, my junk is so fawkin loose you can hear it clunk when u go from coast to drive ( but then again that might be the ujoints too!!!!!), but if hte noise bothers ya, may I suggest TSL's or a loud ass pipe to drown it out???? I wouldnt worry bout it all that much though, seruoisly

clairification on that , it is normal wear, all the rigs I have are 100k+ mile, Ideally, it should have very little slop, but i have had no problems w/ mine being "scary loose" (kinda reminds me of some girls I know:barf: ) good luck

When I upgraded to a larger front driveshaft on my YJ I inherited a hum from the front end. It took me a while to realize that my drive shaft is slowly rubbing away at my exhaust pipe... it's something I need to fix by bending the pipe slightly, but haven't had time. If you have recently upgraded your D-shaft or possibly even your exhaust that could be the problem.
