Hahaha, Thanks, but Im probably $2000 in broken parts richer, than if I had been voted in.
I just dont think my rig has enough flash, to get the votes.
White Paint Job, no big block, no excotic suspension, its a solid rig, and performs very well, but when you put it up against Frogs Rig , the Fat City Bronco, Raptor, or Wolf 359, its just plain ol Vanilla.

Good luck to all of you who made it. It really does look like very a good selection this time around.

i tryed for 4 years to get in so finally i built the burb and hacked it up and just made it just different enough and ugly enough to make people at least take the time to read what i had done to it, and well apparently it worked. But hey everyone has there own strategy to get in and everyone has different amounts of money to put in there rigs so whatever works! you know! To be honest i would have of rather competed with my 72 blazer that would be a little less hacked up but i did what i needed to do!

I ordered a Warn HS9500 last night.

I have thought about bobbing my bed, but I think the only time it would really help me out there would be in the measurements.

I also have a secret weapon. My spotter is going to be Glenn Wakefield. We got third place in TTC '97 with a Samurai with a 4 banger and 33's. Um, he knows how to drive, he been there before. I think he will be a big advantage.:D

This seems like a silly thing to have to say but, learn to winch and to winch well and effective. It seems that that is a killer in TTC. Last year Feris in the Hotrod and his spotter almost killed a great run because of whiching problems. Also the same year the guys in the M37 ran over the cable ang got all fawked up. Both these teams were really great guys and worked awsome otherwise but just get caught up in the action I think. Happened to Jaken Halenbeck(sp) too. It does not say anythng about driver ability but I think everone should just slow down and winch carfully.

Good luck to all, Phil :usa:

No, not yet. :(

A good friend of mine has a brand new set of TSL's, even mounted on the same Hummer rims, but they are so new that they've still got the stickers on 'em, so he's not comfortable lending them to me. I'd offer to get them siped, but I don't that'll help. :(

Got another friend with a set. They're a bit chewed up from rocks, but still lots of tread on them. Can't borrow those either 'cause he's concerned about possible sidewall damage that you can't see 'til the tire fails sometime in the future.

Nobody else that I know that well runs a tire that large. So right now, it looks like I'll be on the DC's for the event. :( Still, I'm happy with on-road performance, snow is awesome so it should be good in sand. Seem okay in the rocks (not the best, not the worst), too. But they do absolutely suck in the mud.

What is wrong with the steering. I just used an acetelyn torch to heat then bend my pitman arm down some, then welded a 12 inch drop arm onto my passenger knuckle. From there, I ran 1/4" stainless steel cable through a pulley back to the driver side to hook to my custom Z-Link. So, essentially it is crossover, crossover steering, or as I like to call it for short, doublecross steering.

It really flexes well. I can get each of those 42's a full tire height off the ground, without lifting any of the other three. For shocks, I just built a ushaped bracket that goes from the end of one to the top of a second, then sleeved the joint with exhaust pipe and duct tape. My drivelines are a bit of a problem, but I ground down the yokes quite a bit so I could get the 60 or so degree angle I needed out of the ujoints. All you guys with 60's are just jealous cuz my D44's hold up just fine. I do need better gears though. My D20 coupled to TF 727 and 3.54 gears in the diffs don't have as much get up and go as I would like, but the IH powerplant more than makes up for it.

Sure, some of the other rigs might work better, but I look cooler.

Funny, that guy with the toyota looks like he has almost exactly the same setup as me. I saw him taking pictures of my rig down at the mall last weekend though, so he probably just built his based on the pictures he took.

hey ryeguy just tell your friends that you will replace any tire that gets any significant damage i meant damn what are they gonna do with them, set them in the garage and say wow they look cool! I mean hell if my tires were 16.5s i would consider loaning them too ya and for that matter my tires already know what to expect(ha,ha) well basically they have all ready been there.

oh yeah speaking of stickers they told us to remove all stickers and i purposely left my rock ram sticker on thinking they would maybe cut me a deal in future exspecially if i got the cover and now my rockram bent itself which they say is impossible and the most they will do is like knock 50 bucks off of the ram, which they would probally do that for anyone. Lesson learned!

I agree about winching properly. In events down under that i have been to the guys that can winch efectively, effeciently and quickly do that much better. keeping track of where your cable is and proper angles etc make all the difference. What most of teams down here are using is the Plasma Rope (nylon rope) on their winches as it is light and manageable for the spotters to run with and they can wrap it around the front bars alot easier than having to respool. the hot ticket IMHO is to have a net across the hood that you can just throw the rope under to keep it in place when not in use.

Good luck everyone, can't wait for the video.
PS I picked 7 plus an alternate

PS I picked 7 plus an alternate

I have some knoledge to pass along.
The rope is a must.... If you dont plan on driving through tank trap. Also paint the rope flourescent green. I have sucessfully wenched my CJ-7 through Tank Trap in under 30 min back in 99. Two days after TTC.
I know the placement of the good wenching points and how to get to them. Go to a Rock Climbing supply store and get heavy duty carabiners avoid the Screwgate style. These can be found in up to a 20,000 LB working load ranges. You'll need to hook up fast, this is the best way. Pratice a whole week. work out comunication before you get there. If I had to compete again, I would run at mid ship mounted wench like Pat Germelion's Bronco, and have a quick release pully system intergrated into the upper cage, this way if you need to wench backwards or sidways you can. another reason this works well is now the driver can engage the clutch at will, instead of relying on the tired spotter to run back to the front of the truck. Focus a good week on waterproofing.
You'll need a snorkle, exaust fording kit, waterproofed electronics and a lot of luck to not be killed by the water. Get a sports timer to keep track of time. spotter should wear lightweight clothing, it will not weigh him or her down when wet. these are just a few tips off the top of my head. see you there.:emb:
