How do you get it out. My brother has an 87 305 truck that has been running crapy and ticking like crazy with little or no oil pressure. We came across the truck for praticaly nothing to be used as a winter beater. Any way when we went to drain the oil to check out the oil pump the oil wouldent flow. It just use to come out in blobs like leaches. So we took the base pan down and holly sh#$ it was like the oil had turned to a jelly glue like sludge. I have never seen anything like this before. It was crazy. The oil filter and oil pump was the same way. So the question is how do you get it out? The pan is cleaned and we got a new pump but is there any way to flush out the bulk of it first before we put it back together.

You can:
Add kerosene to the oil, old hotrod trick
or
Go to a car dealership and get a can of BG MOA i think the part number is BG208 not positive though. That is an oil cleaner.

The way I do this is if you arent in any hurry to get it out then run a quart of tranny fluid in the oil for about 500 miles before you change the oil and the detergent in the T fluid will eat up the sludge and it will come out.If you are in a hurry like this situation then I would put the pan on and DO NOT fill with oil then remove your distributer and use a drill to prime the oil pump with about 6 to 8 quarts of Diesel fuel in the motor.DO NOT spin the motor because the NO OIL and diesel will hurt the berings.Just use the drill and oil pump to pump the fuel all through the motor to clean it out.Do this several times for aboun an hour in 2 to 3 minuite intervals. Then drain the fuel and repeat if nessary. After all the fuel is drained then fill with cheap motor oil and pump with drill again to gain oil pressure and flush all diesel out of engine.Once again drain the oil out with remaining contents of fuel/sludge and oil. After all this refill with more oil, then prime the pump then put distributer in and fire engine and see how it runs. That should just about be a new motor again.
For future maintinence I like to run a quart of tranny fluid for a couple hundred miles in the oil before i change it and it keeps it clean.

Saw one like that ~20 years ago, guy (or has wife) had a
new Suburban run ~35K on the OEM oil. Engine was
trash.

I remember old heads talking about this way back in the day. The sludge came from a lot of oils back then having parifin(sp) in it. I dont know of any that have it now, I think Quaker state finally quit putting it in their oil.
Marvel Mystery oil is another additive I remember hearing about.
Let me say this though, I cant back this up as fact. Its just what I remember hearing.

One guy I knew swore by some stuff called Reslone (SP ??) throw a quart in
with freash oil run for a little while (10 miles or so) change the oil, repeat as
neccesssary, going longer and further each change.
Personally I think your engine it toast, and not worth a whole lot of effort.

I would add diesel to the oil and run in the driveway. Change it and use ATF instead of motor oil. ATF thick (or thin) as 10W motor oil. I would drain and fill with ATF and run it. I wouldn't drive it. Let it run at 1200-1500 RPM. You may have to do this a couple of times to get it clean. You will want to use good oil filters to catch the gunk. We use BG MOA at work and it is more of a oil stablizer than cleaner. You could use this as a reason to put in a crate engine.

Make damn sure you don't have antifreeze getting into the crankcase. It can/will cause this crud over time-not to mention it eats the crank bearings away.
