I tried searching google and it came up with nothing related to this.
Thereis an add for a 1979 toyota pickup for parts. Will any of the parts like the doors or entire bed bolt onto my 1988 xtracab body and/or frame? Or do I need extracab parts for my truck specifically? The bed in my truck is ready to fall off so I am looking for all options.
Thanks

I know of a guy on another forum that put an 80 bed onto a 1994 pickup. It looks pretty good. The only thing is that the bed is a few inches narrower then the 94 cab. (about an inch and a half on either side)

So the bed should fit then? What about doors?

Doors will NOT fit.
The bed can be made to fit, but it will take some fab work.

Since they are different body styles, the beds will interchange even though they will look completely different. I've seen later beds ('90+) on your vintage truck, but not earlier beds. May have to mess around a bit with the mounting. For things like doors or other stuff that has to fit together you will need something from the same "generation" as your truck.

I wasn't too sure on the doors so I thought I'd ask. Makes sense they work just on the different generations as Toyota made some changes to the body.

Understand, not trying to be a jerk here, but it is sort of like asking if a door from a Ford F150 will fit a Chevy 1500 since they are both half ton pickups. The "hole" in the cab for the door is a different size and shape on the different cabs. Likewise, a fender isn't going to mount up properly to the holes in the understructure and so forth.
Basically, you have the different "generations" of the trucks. Up to '83 was one body style. Then from '84 to '88 was a body style - even though they started with solid axles and ended up with IFS. In '89 they started a new body style and I lost interest in things after that.
Some parts, like the bed, will swap over with a bit of work because they are basically the same size through the years. But it may not look "right" to you because they are different styles - rounded wheel wells vs. squared off wheel wells and such. Other parts are the same - like an 8" solid axle four cylinder differential will swap between axles of different years even though the axle housings may be different widths from year to year. Other things could be considered "upgrades" by swapping in newer equipment - say the master cylinder from a late model truck into a newer truck. These may require a little more fabrication as they may or may not be direct bolt-ins.
Hope this helps.

Don't worry you weren't a jerk.
I new about the generations, I just wasn't sure if there was any ability to swap different parts, excluding the bed. I guess in some sense it's a dumb question.
Thanks for you help, I get it entirely now.
