: 3\4 ton width

OK so here is the problem (or not depending on how you look at it). When I did the SOA on my 75 Scout, I narrowed a Chev 44 housing to use stock width Scout II inner shafts. After doing the crossover I converted the front to use Ford 1\2 ton rotors to match the 44 Scout rear. When I did this it added 1" overall to the width ( from 60" to 61" WMS to WMS). Well now I have decided that I need (or want) a FF60 rear. So after converting the front to 8 lug to get the measurements for the shop to cut the FF60 (from a 73 Ford F-250) I measured the WMS to WMS again and now have gained 2" from the 1\2 ton stuff bringing it out to 63". Does this seem right to everybody? I was expecting another 1" total, but ended up with 1" more on each side.

Anyway here is the problem. The state is becoming a real pain in the a** on tires sticking out of the fenderwells and I would really like to keep it street legal. I was pushing the issue before (with the 1\2 ton set up and standard offset wheeles and 35X12.50-15 MTR\s) and now I am afraid it ain't gonna happen wit the 3\4 ton stuff.
So here is where I am at. I can go to the 3\4 ton setup and run some flares (which I don't want to do), stay with the 1\2 ton setup and figure out what rear to run that would be stronger than the 44 rear I now have, or try to build the 44 to be stronger than it is. Now I can most likely come up with just about any rear end that I need (it pays to be friends with the guy who owns the wrecking yard) so what does everyone think?
I have a 31 spline 9" from a 78 F-150 as well as the FF60.

Personaly I'd just go with the 8-lug stuff and stick with a FF unit and run some JC Whitney style flares.

But if you really don't want to do the flares, cut the ends off the D60, get some set-20 "big ford" bearing ends from Summit, and call Dutchman and have a set of 1.5", 35-spline shafts made up on a 5 on 5.5 pattern. Set the width right around 58-60" wide. Little narrower than the front to help with steering.

Rig up some Disc brakes your you have an almost bullet proof rearend that is easily good to 40"+ tires.

but thats juts my opinion.
