I know for most, this is a stupid question, and yes, in the scheme of things I am still very much a newbie, so please keep the flaming down to a minimum......theres a reason why I put this in the newbie section and not the general toyota section.

Had a timing chain cover leak on my 22re a few weeks back, tore into it, then got pulled away on a business project. Going back to it today, my bolts don't appear to be in the right spot. I've googled, checked my FSM and other sorts of info and can't find the info that I'm looking for, all I can find are torque specs for bolt sizes.

I've got the bolts for the water pump already in, just need to be torqued, but the oil pump bolts, and the bolts on the outside of the timing chain cover, I'm not 100% sure on. If anyone could tell me bolt head size, and length and location would be appreciated.

I know that it doesn't help much at this point, but what I did was to take a piece of cardboard and quickly draw the shape of the timing chain cover on it. As I removed each bolt I pushed it through the cardboard in the proper location to keep things organized.

well, at one point I had it all organized, and ready to go, but this ended up being put off for a few weeks. since then, i've had a few things taken out of my truck, some bolts (these along with all of the alternator support bolts it appears), 2 belts and 2 gallons of antifreeze.

thanks for the suggestion though, good idea for next time.

anyone else? is there possibly a bolt kit you can purchase that comes with all the bolts you need and a chart with where they go? I'm just trying to figure out how someone would accomplish this if one were to buy a truck "as is" with a engine torn apart.

ok, somehow i missed this, but I found pretty much what i'm looking for, minus bolt head sizes:

If I remember correctly, all the bolts are 8mm and 10mm.

there are 3 bolt's not listed on that photo, 2 bottom bolts on the oil pump, just on either side of the 2 arrows on the bottom that say TWO OIL PAN BOLTS, anyone know the sizes on them? and the 3rd is on the left of the water pump, just above the 3 3/16th bolt. I think that might be another 3 3/16th but not sure. 2 water pipe bolts, those aren't listed either (10 or 12mm's i believe).

also, anyone know the size on the "hidden" bolt? "Right in front of the cam gear, directly below where the distributor drive gear was is a small pool of oil hiding the bolt."

Well, at this point, i'm down to replacing 3 bolts, the 1- 1 3/4 and the 2 on the left side of the timing chain cover that aren't labled with a length. Anyone know the lengths for those 2?

found the "hidden bolt" so thats all good to go. just need to get those two bolts identified, then i can pick up 3 new bolts, then start buttoning it back up.
