: Time to roll
CA_YJ 04-03-2002, 08:15 PM Well I have been looking to have a cage built for quite some time. Finally found a bad ass kit and just finished installing it. Check out the pics. You YJ guys will like this one. Its a full cage that you can still use your hard doors with. I went through the dash. Got the cage from the guys at T-Rox.com. Best prebent kits out there with a ton of options.
Here are some links. I don't want to post the pics here cause they are pretty big.

aaronlosey 04-03-2002, 09:27 PM pretty cool, nothing outragious though. congrats on your new cage though!!!
CA_YJ 04-03-2002, 10:06 PM I thought that it was pretty cool considering that it is not a custom fab job. this kit came ready to weld in.
KAcrawler 04-04-2002, 07:21 AM how easy was the cage to weld in. my buddy got one of those prefab cages from somebody and it turned out ok but it didn't fit together very well..ie we had to clearance several of the tubes so they would fit together
Rodney YJ 04-04-2002, 08:23 AM I want to see some pics of the bars going through the dash and how they attach to the floor or firewall.
CA_YJ 04-04-2002, 08:41 AM It was pretty easy to put together with minimal gaps. Nothing that I couldn't fill in a pass. I did grind a few spots for a better fit, but it went together pretty smooth.
Here is a pic of my friend's jeep who has the same cage. You can see the leg room and floor mount. The cage ties into the floor and the rockers.

The cage came with 1/2" grade 8 hardware to bolt the cage to the floor. Pretty solid. I just love being able to roll down my windows without opening the door, and it doesn't take away leg room.
sanyi83 04-04-2002, 08:56 AM the only question I can think of is where would I put my sound bar?:D
The Rockslut 04-04-2002, 10:05 AM So how much was the front cage kit? What size tubing? Their website is pretty retarded.
KAcrawler 04-04-2002, 11:45 AM yeah their website hugs a root could they design a cage that uses outriggers from the frame, i don't trust my body with my life
JiveTurkey 04-04-2002, 03:12 PM TTT so CA YJ will see it and post the details

You could always get the TJ-style soundbar and mount it behind the main hoop. :flipoff2:
High5 04-04-2002, 05:54 PM i think it is a pretty good looking cage. i also like how the floor mounts run on the side of the tub too. outriggers to the frame would still be a good idea.

 :rainbow:
YJ4LIFE 04-04-2002, 06:05 PM any more shots of the YJ? Looks awesome so far. How far back are your TJ flares? What springs did you use. thanks
CA_YJ 04-04-2002, 10:08 PM I don't think there is any real reason to tie into the frame. If you are going to tie into the frame build a tube buggy. Ya there are manufacturers that sell "frame tie in" kits but what is another body mound going to do. The frame tie in kits rely on a bushing between the frame and the roll cage. If you are going to tie into the frame then get rid of your body mount bushings and weld the body into the frame. As for it not being strong enough I gaurentee that my cage can take multiple rolls and I'll be fine. It is the best cage kit I have found.

I got the cage with all the options, bent spreaders, gussets, and the front half cost me around 450. It is made out of 1 3/4 tubing.

I'll have a bunch more pics after this weekend. We are going out to the hammers. Who knows maybe i'll test the cage, but hopefully not. We're running wrecking ball and sledge on sat and big johnson on sunday. I'll post pics on monday so check back then. I am running stock YJ spring with the second leaf out of an XJ for an add a leaf. I installed my TJ flares when I was SUA so I put them pretty far back. In the mean time here are a few shots of my jeep.

KAcrawler 04-05-2002, 08:09 AM so how much was the cage kit total?
CA_YJ 04-05-2002, 09:50 AM Kit cost me about just under 600 for the whole thing. I chose to go for most all the bells and whissles. You can do it for much cheaper, and they have a bunch of different options to save money, but I figured why not. I'm painting it today and I'll throw up a few pics later on.
YJ4LIFE 04-05-2002, 12:27 PM trim those front flares. I put tape along the bottom edge parallel to the fender and then used a box cutter to follow the tape. I followed it a couple times going deeper each time until it went through http://communities.msn.com/GRKTazphotos/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=8
CA_YJ 04-05-2002, 12:30 PM Ya I have been meaning to do that for about 6 months, but I have always found other things to do.
xBabyJesus 04-05-2002, 02:23 PM Nice cage, looks a lot like mine (custom)... but you forgot the harness bar!
CA_YJ 04-05-2002, 04:50 PM Don't like the 5 points. I go for the simple lap belt. Less restrictive.
