anyone know of a 12V pump that will pump fuel (low volume / pressure) between tanks? I really need it to be two directional

I am considering running two small fuel cells in a project vehicle due to space constraints, but I would like to be able to use a stock in tank fuel pump in the main tank, and pump fuel in and out of it to fill / empty the auxiliary tank.

Any ideas on something that will work off 12 v and be safe (spark free) for fuel?

Thanks a TON for any help

You will need two of these 3 way valves

My buddy used a Motorcycle fuel pump. You can pick the pressure and quantity by the size of bike you get it from. I think the pump he used on his Zuki was off of a CBR600. He has it hooked up to the ignition, but you could set it up with a toggle. I don't know what it would take to make it fill and empty the same tank though. If you don't have a valve that switches between the main and aux. tanks I would just have it pump from the aux. tank to the main tank and be done. IMHO that would be the easiest and cheapest way. No extra gauge to hook up to the aux tank either.

what about the pump used for the bilge on a boat? I know they are spark safe because they are in "contaminated" engine compartments, but I don't know if they are fuel safe.

Look at this fuel transfer switch from JC Whitney (http://qcpp.aol.com/jcwhitney.com__C/www.jcwhitney.com/SearchCatContainer.jhtml?_requestid=33783) .
I use one on my truck. One switch and one gas gauge.

They come in 3 and 6 port designs and the price is cheap.

What? How in the hell would you plumb it? It's made to pump water!!

You can't put it in the tank, even if you could you would need two of them, Two of them would cost more than one real electric fuel pump and the two 3 way valves.

Why try to re-invent the wheel? What' s your beef with a electric fuel pump???? Hell a trip to your local Pic n Pull and you could get a pair of them for 15.00!
