: Is this a dana 300 or a 20
scout1/2ton 02-28-2006, 02:44 PM When i first posted my 79 scout 2 (w/ the fangs on the front) someone told me to check out the tranfer case to maker sure it was a dana 300 well i clean of alot of the dirt and looked around on it and here is want i came up with these number C-18-19, 018-15-24-8, and a little tag had these numberws on it 457720-C92, 301060-4. So i was wondering if u guys could help me figure it which transfer case i have. I took some pics of it. When i was looking around at where the shifter goes into the transfer case it look like there could be a place for a sec shifter to be added.

No, the speedo cable is on the driver's side. If it was a 300 it'd be on the passenger's side.
scout1/2ton 02-28-2006, 02:50 PM so show i find a dana 300 or just keep the transfercase that is in my truck and is it any good or just junk?

Search, and make up your own mind.

Ditto... also the case is all cast a 300 would have a aluminum tail shaft housing. We told you that in the other thread. That is a plain old Dana 20 upside, very reliable and tons of them around. Down side 2 to 1.

and the 20 has a deep pan.
Mechanos 02-28-2006, 03:13 PM Also.... notice the deep pan. Agreed it's a D20. 2:1 stock, but 3.15:1 is available.

Awesome.... I bet it makes a better fort than it does a hardtop.  I thought we plasma'd the sides off of that thing to make it easier to haul it to the scrapper?
I don't know about "soon", but I would definately like to make it back out that way again and hook up with the guys I met last fall for some more wheelin'. Maybe next year I'll do another 3 week excursion across the country again. It was a blast traveling like that and don't have any problem doing it again sometime. Also thought it would be cool to head east sometime and maybe hook up with some of the southeast folks in the Tellico area.

Dont waste your time and money on a scout 300. Have the tail house of your tranny converted to a jeep style output so you can run a much more better Jeep 300.

Yup, I'm sure you will because they're lying around everywhere. 13,104 IH's made 26 years ago had them (give or take). Good luck.
