: How do I get this Fawker off??
Diesel_Cruiser 04-04-2002, 01:02 AM Sorry I didn't search, I don't know what the english word is for this thing.
How do you get the "thing" off off the knuckle?? I don't like wacking steering components with a BFH, there must be a more professional way. Any tips?
Chris
Tracknod 04-04-2002, 01:45 AM If your talking about the cone washers... use a BFH!!! That is the only way I have ever seen it done. I think there is a thread about this on the first page of General if you don't take my word for it. Just Hit it!!!
Here's the link if ya don't take my word for it:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Sometimes the STEERING ARM wont come out of the bearing, which prevents it from being removed from the housing. One way to do it is to pull everything else off the housing and take out the birfield/axle shaft. Then get a fairly long drift and tap on the underside of the steering arm from inside the swivel housing. Shouldn't take much more than a few solid taps with a MFH (M=Medium).

nuclearlemon 04-04-2002, 05:46 AM you can get the cone washers out by tapping on the side of the steering arm by the washers. the vibrations will work them out.
Mr McGee 04-04-2002, 06:37 AM when you hit the threads, USE BRASS!!! You will booger the fawk outta your studs if you dont.
it took me two nights of pounding to figure out i had to read morgans article. if they're really rusty/locked in, dont take a screwdriver and pound on the little "gap" on them. Just use BRASS and a BFH. Its the ONLY WAY TO GO!!!!

BFH IS the professional way. I just removed mine, and I "tapped" the arm with the BFH (my small BFH) and wiggled the arm and tap and wiggled, etc. It took a few minutes, then the cone washers should work their way out and the arm should come off.
Good luck
Diesel_Cruiser 04-04-2002, 08:06 AM Used the method JBT explained in the other thread, screwed the nuts back on the studs, hit it with my most favorite BFH, and POP, not only the washers, but the entire arm pops off. Thanx for all the advice.

Diesel_Cruiser 04-04-2002, 11:28 PM Aggro: those rotors are special Formula 1 tested carbon rotors with internal calipers. Offcourse not available to the ordinary mob, they are only available for professionals like me! :flipoff2:
Ranger: that's my problem, I don't know how the shims(4°) need to go in, with shackle reversal should the thick part of the shim point to the front or to the rear of my truck??

Love it! :D
When I was living in Europe it always amazed me how much American programming was on TV.
When I was up in Finland for the 1000 Lakes Rallye, very impressive, the Rallye assistants who would flip from German, to English, to French, to Russian. Later I realize NONE of the movies or TV shows were dubbed, but all in the original language. It was handy for picking up a few Finnish phrases, too. Still it was amazing how many folks have "Rambo" accents from the Rambo movies. :D
Funniest one... in France not only was the movie dubbed, but so was the SONGS. Nothing like watching an old Elvis movie with "Your Nothing but a hound dog" dubbed in French. :barf:
