I have a stock 78 fj40 that came from the factory without manual locking hubs. Does someone make a conversion kit that would allow me to put in a set of hubs, and, can I pull a set of hubs from either another cruiser or toy truck. If so, what years. I would rather change a broken hub on the trail, than a broken axle, I must do a conversion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

What you have installed now is a drive plate....purchase any stock or aftermarket Cruiser lockouts and they will bolt right on. 6 bolts hold the drive plate to the spindle now. Pull those, install the inner portion of the replacement lockout, install the snap ring OR the bolt-fender washer, and then install the outer portion of the lockout. It's like a 15 minutes job per side, maybe.

Also, the lockouts are stronger than your axle shafts, particularly the birfields. I rarely hear of Cruiser owners breaking lockouts, but birfs let go instead. (I've done a lockout once, but shattered MUCH more than that in the process...heh)

And either save those driveplate or send them to me....those are NICE to have.
