So I put 52" springs on the front of my k20 and crossover steering using a straight drag link. The problem is that at static ride height with the wheels straight, my pitman arm is right over the spring plate and the ends of the u-bolts. If I limit my travel upwards with a bumpstop, I end up with about 3" of up-travel before I am bottomed out. Another thing to add is that this is with an add-a-leaf in the spring pack.
Has anyone dealt with this issue?
I was thinking about trying a jeep wagoneer (I think thats the one) pitman arm, but it would swing and hit the frame.
What about moving the box forward on the frame and or "clocking" it to keep the pitman arm as high as possible? Anyone tried this?
Thanks for the input.

Different pitman? Find one that's nearly flat. That should help, just have to work around the crossmember and such if you still have it.

I used one listed as a jeep app, I got it from WFO, trevor knew exactly what my problem was when I described it. You lose a tiny bit of turning radius, but it makes all kinds of difference in clearance. The 1104 ford arm just isn't the great save-all that everyone seems to think it is.

i have the ford van arm, it clears the frame by less the 1/8" inch. my only prob with it is that the spline clocking is off about 10-15*, i was able make it work but it would be a good idea to cut out the key splines, or cut out and rotate all of them.

I just used an old pitman arm off my 2001 Duramax 2500 HD. Works better then anything else I'v tryed. Just knock the old BJ assembly out of it, fill the dam thing in with weld then drill it. You can use either a taper for the DRE or a straight hole for the heims. I'v used both and they both work fine.
I have a 52" swap in mine and I can't picture the U-bolt plate ever hitting my pitman arm, something sounds funny there.

I agree, something sounds off here. I have a z-link on mine, and it never had an issue with either the ~3-4" lift stock-length springs or the current 52" stock rear springs.
Is your axle rotated way forward to point the pinion up?

something sounds funny there if the pitman arm is almost hitting the spring plate. could your truck have a 2wd frame? i know the 2wd frame 's steering box is closer to the axle centerline than a 4wd frame. if your running a 2wd frame and moved the axle forward with this conversion its possable because if my memory serves me well its about 1 1/2 inches different between the two frames. just a thought
