This might sound like a stupid question, but I've never done this before:
I have a YJ with waggy axles. I am narrowing a '79 bronco front axle (hp44) down to waggy length so I can swap everything but the gear set over from my waggy front to the bronco front, and get a hp front axle so my front driveshaft will stop hanging on rocks.
I haven't finished cutting the inner knuckles off the bronco axle, just taking a break, but to me it looks as though the bronco inner knuckle is thinner in the section which goes around the axle tube than the waggy one is. I don't mean that they are a different diameter, they should be the same. I mean that if you measure the 'thickness' of the material horizontally where the knuckle mates to the tube, it appears the bronco knuckle has less material there.
Does this make sense to anyone? I thought all D44 inner knuckles were the same. Should I be considering using my waggy inner knuckles in order that everything swaps correctly across?
Thanks for any information.
Regards,
Chad
