So the day has finally come, Ah:D I may actually be a proud owner of a Hi-pinion front :D
For those of you that have a Hi-pinion how/what have you done to insure it's good when you go to buy it?

Do I Check for Number's #### ???

Is there a visual way to see it's a front 3rd? or do I just turn it to check correct direction?

Seller says it's from a front 91 landcruiser with 488's.

I will check for smooth gear face and turning, anything else?

I'd say it would be like any other third you'd be looking for. Check the ring and pinion for strange wear or chipping, check the preload and the flange for any strange (wobbly) movement.. Just like anything else used, caveat emptor!

I picked this thing up last night, and was pretty disapointed

the Housing Face/ring that bolts/seals to the Axle is really Banged uP !
plus the ?preload screws had scratches on them

It came from some weird town near Fresno that sells Landcruiser parts, BEWARE of this Place. Think it was called American Auto _______?
