I know the NV3550 can replace a AX-15 but can I still use the internal slave cylinder and bellhousing? I was told that I can ..but I would like to know from someone that may have done this swap... I cannot seem to locate an affordable bellhousing with the external slave with all the needed components
such as the slave cylinder ..hoses, bearing fork, bearing, pilot busing....(what ever its called)
1990 YJ 4.2L
I guess I may have to purchase it all from advance adapters but that uses all the cash...

Are you sure that you have an ax-15?? and not a Pugeot Ba-10.... I dont think that the AX-15 ever came with in internal slave... I did the Ba-10 to ax-15 swap and I used the external slave that came in the ax-15...they are much easier to replace should it ever go bad.

yep, some of the AX-15's came with an internal slave. I've got complete 3550 from my TJ. I swapped in an auto so I have the clutch and all the little parts. I'm holding it for a guy I worked out a trade with, but if it falls through I might be able to help.

I'm in the process of helping a friend swap out a 95 AX-15 for an 04 nv3550 It looks like the throwout bearing and clutch fork are identical (both external slave), so I would guess that the bellhousings (even the internal slave ones) are interchangable onto the trannies.

Why would you want to keep the internal slave cylinder though? If you are swapping out trannies anyways, here is an opportunity to upgrade. It sucks when an internal slave cylinder starts leaking and has to be replaced (hours and hours of work), while replacing an external slave cly. only takes minutes... I would think it would be worth the few extra bucks to swap out internal bellhousing and slave cylinder for external while you have it all tore apart. My .02

Just find a 94 and later Jeep 4.0 bellhousing set up. That will work as is. When you use the term "internal slave" what you're really talking about is the Jeep Hydraulic Throwout Bearing. It's a poor unit prone to leakage. It will NOT fit onto the NV3550. 93 and earlier I believe used them and the bell is designed to work with them. Go to www.car-part.com and find a stock 94 and later set up. They aren't that expensive and will bolt straight up to the NV3550. Some of them are going for around $40.

I had a trade worked out with a guy, but I think he's blowin' me off. Give me until Wednesday evening to get in touch with him. If he's no longer interested then it will be back up for sale.
I have almost everything that was removed when I put the auto in. The pilot bearing and the spacer inside the crank were both trashed, but I have everything else.

I've got the 3550 with bell and throw out bearing fork, clutch master/slave, brake & clutch pedals for a TJ, 4.0L flywheel + clutch disk + pressure plate, tranny dust shield, 3550 tranny mount adapter. There is probably something I've forgot, but that is most of it.
