skank da sock puppet 04-04-2002, 07:50 AM I just got my D44 CTMs and they appear to be forged production units rather than Lance's CNC units. Beefy!

When I talked to Jack last fall he said that the production units would be forged rather than CNC and should be marginally stronger. (What is marginally stronger than indestructable?) He was busy when I called this time so I just ordered up a pair of what he was shipping out.
injectedEB 04-04-2002, 09:22 AM Pretty sure he's only doing the forged ones - less expensive to produce and stronger. All the units I have bought from him this year have been forged.
Klasick68 04-04-2002, 09:28 AM Dem's joint's gunna be hard to smoke!!!!!!!!!!:smokin:

At this point, in the evolution of the CTM design, all of the production units will be the Forged version. The CNC versions were basicly built so that all of the design criteria could be worked out throughout the testing process. The new forged designs, incorporate all the best features (such as better grease fittings, and caps), established durring the testing, and also bennefit from the increased strength inheirant in the Forging Process. The forged joint has tested as well as the earlier CNC joints, but has a cross section engineered to be 25% stronger structuraly, than the CNC unit.
All I know is that I havent even been able to break the original version, which had been through a couple of competition in other rigs before I even installed them on my shafts.
I have a new set of spares, just waiting for thier turn in the rotation, but the olds ones wont give up the ghost. I think Jack is gonna have me retire them soon, so ha can excamine them for stress after nearly 8 months in my rig. The last time I removed the long side inner shaft (to replace a Warn shaft that had twisted at the inner splines), the joints looked as good as new,(structurally anyway).
KAcrawler 04-04-2002, 12:24 PM when are the u-joints for the 60 comming out? are they comming out?i guess i would rather have the forged but i don't know if i could wait that long
so whats the price on these ?
still $150 a joint :D :D
the 60 joints are out. all cnc and probally will not ever be made from a forging acorrding to jack due to the lower demand. i have a set of the 60's and they are increadable.
the forged joints are also cnc machained on the journal. :D

CJ-Jeeper 04-04-2002, 09:12 PM Would someone post the contact info for CTM? I'm sure I could find it by searching, but since this thread is already here........ someone else probably wants it too.
thanks

toymaniac 04-04-2002, 09:32 PM does any one have the ctm's in something they drive everyday?? Just wondering how much not having pinbearings effects their "road life" seeing as they would just be sitting there when the hubs are unlocked??

with the hubs unlocked they are not turning, so no problems.
