Im trying to get the front output shaft out on a jeep dana 20. I have removed both bearing cups/races and the rear bearing. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this shaft out of the case.

It looks like i just need to get the front bearing off but im not sure how to do that or if that is the problem.

I am trying to get at the second shift rod set screw. Please for whoever has done this give me a hand. The haynes is shit for this part and I can't tell from the dana 18 guides how to get this shaft out as they are quite different also.

thanks in advance. Can take pictures of what im talking about if people don't understand.

Thanks,

Arne Anderson

I've had 20's apart on a few ocassions, but don't rmember that much trouble. You have the "rear" bearing already off the shaft, and it still won't come out?
It's been about a year since I've had one apart. Memory kinda shot. The instuctions for a Tera kit might be helpful to you, I have them somewhere but dont have a scanner to send 'em to 'ya. I'll look into this further.

thanks I actually got the bearing off tonight. I wouldn't mind checking out the instruction because I fried one bearing trying to get it off and would like to know easier ways of dismantling these things.

I do think a hammer came into the picture at some point, but not enough to hurt anything.

Actually my tool of choice was a sledge. I could not get the rear bearing off at all but now that I have it apart I don't think I needed to but I will look at it. For front I clampled the gears to the case and smacked the shaft with a blunt object and sledge. Had to smack it pretty good but she came out.

Both of these bearings are for the front input shaft.
