I need new shocks. I have been running the Rancho 9000s but never move them off the softest settings. What can I buy that is cheaper that still maintains a really soft ride? My Yj has 33s and a 4 inch lift. They do not need to be adjustable.

The regular Rancho give a soft ride ,but don't overheat and fade. The KYB gives a soft ride but can't handle alot of rough stuff w/o getting hot. Just my experience on a buggy that gets a lot of high speed offroad stuff.

heck you could buy the best shock for a yj and still not see a difference from a $15 shock...well mabey but not much

I've run Rancho (standard seried) shocks on my pickup. I wheeled it fairly often (atleast once a month). The Ranchos didn't last very long at all. I had one of the struts leak (front shock)- and took it back for a replacement.

I then ran OME's on that same pickup truck. Nice ride & didn't wheel that much with the pickup (got a trail rig) so I don't know OME's longevity. OME's are a bit more expensive than the others. I had one strut leak - got it replaced. Only two weeks later, the replacement strut leaked and got a replacement. Sold the truck....

On the trail rig - I've run mostly Doetsch Tech shocks. Ran the standard ones (3000 series) on the first trail rig that got totaled. Those shocks were on it for probably a good two years and were still good when we took them off. My current rig has Doetsch Tech Prerunner shocks (8000 series). These shocks have a thicker shaft than the standard series and a built-in bumpstop. They've been on the rig for about 2 years and still running strong.

I'd definately buy the Doetsch Tech shocks again - they've been good and are comparable in price to Rancho's - about $40 or less.

So you are referring to the Doetsch Pre-runner 8000 series then? Looks like a good set-up.
