I just put the Tracker's auto back together. I fired it up, ran it through the gears. There is a whirring noise. The first couple of times, it went away for a second when I put it in gear. After I ran it through the gears, it kept doing it. Not loud. Honestly, doesnt sound catastrophic or anything...

Not like a power steering pump with air in the lines... but I'm wondering if that is still a possibility. It only took about 5 qts of tranny fluid... but I was unable to fully drain the torque converter anyway.

I havent been able to drive it yet. Will be welding the exhaust up tis afternoon. Then I can set it on the ground.

educated tips? (besides shooting it)

two more questions (search is down)

officially: are there any swaps or changes in order to mount a transfercase on the 2wd tracker tranny? the tailhousing seems to have the same pattern as the t-case adapter.

what were the differences in the 95-down, 96-up autos? electronics? is it worth it to swap in a later model auto into the '90? if this thing craps out later, i'll just get another....

2wd auto output shaft is different, you would have to tear the whole thin down to change over to 4wd. The 90 auto is a 3 speed, the later models are 4 speed with electronics to help shifting.

ok, thanks.

i got it down the road. it hooked up good in 1st, but was slipping.. TRYING to shift into 2nd. If I let off, it would go into 2nd, but slip, then downshift. After about 5 minutes of putting around, it went into second, and then right on up into 3rd.

I only went about 1 mile total, all under 30 mph. got a little of the "burned clutch" odor, so I parked it, letting it idle in neutral for a few minutes. Figure that there was air trapped all through the valve body.... we'll see.
