Trying to figure out what material I can use to make some templates for my plasma cutter. Has to be non-conductive, be able to withstand some temps and 1/4-3/8 thick. Any ideas? I was thinking a phenolic plastic or fiberglass.

I use steel...No problems when the guide is set correctly.

I used a piece of door skin. About 3/16" thick, easy to cut and shape, and cheap.

I use wood (plywood) or MDF sheets. Rub bar soap on edges to make more slipery. Have bukket of water to dip pattern in if you are cutting out multiple pieces with same pattern, gets smokey. The best thing about wood is easy to cut out .Remember to under size the pattern to account for tip offset my Hypotherm is about half inch.

Cool, I've been using steel and it works but had some "expert" tell me that it will kill my consumables quicker...why they couldn't explain or at least I stopped listening to them..zzzz.

Ditto for wood, thanks for the soap trick! :)

For cutting out fenders wood is cool, just cut a thin 1/4" plywood to the shape you want. Attach to the scrap portion of the fender... reuse the same pattern on the other side. WHOA... they actually match. :D

Worst thing I have cut with my Plama Cutter. 1" stainless steel, it was messy but did enough of a trim that I finished up on the lathe. Hypertherm 900.... Love it!

TGIF! Wrench time &

1" stainless?? damm:evil: But you have the right equipment for it, I'm just a poor boy and have the Hypertherm 380, works great for most anything up to about 1/2 which gets kinda ugly but as long as the job gets done.
