Danger Ranger. Good catch on the Georgetown not coloma.

I saw odd fellows hall and immediately thought of the place in Coloma where all the Pine Hill preserve meetings were held.

I'll edit the first post, but It won't fix the link on the main page.

Maybe a moderator can fix it???

Sounds like the meeting has been changed to a "We the People" membership drive?...

from Rick Guidice:

The Town Hall meeting scheduled for April 12 has been canceled.
Georgetown California Because of the sensitive issues surrounding the Eldorado legal action the Town Hall meeting has been postponed. Reschedule dates to be announced. The purpose of this gathering of citizens concerned about the loss of forest access was to provide information about the organization "We the People" and to establish a framework for support. This can still happen by becoming an e-mail contact in the We the People network e-mail - wethepeople@attbi.com
We the People will be holding a membership meeting on Friday, April 12, 7:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Hall, at the corner of Wentworth Springs Road and Hwy 93, Georgetown CA. If you are interested in learning more about We the People and how you can support forest access, please attend.

Looks like there will also be a Rock Creek work day:

CERA has just got up and running a phone information line that will keep you posted of current events, such as last minute cancellations of work weekends or enduros because of weather or what ever. Before you leave call 866-244-CERA, (2372) to confirm. Also, we would like to get a head count of how many of you can attend. E-mail responces preferred or by phone

Help needed for Rock Creek trails.
TRAIL REROUTE AT ROCK CREEK
The California Enduro Riders Association (CERA) (http://www.cera.org/), a member of the Rock Creek Collaboration Forum, along with friends of Rock Creek trails invite you and your origination to help in the volunteer trail reroute project. The next work event is the weekend of April 13. If weather permits, many of us will be camping out Friday and Saturday night on Mace Mill. We will meet 9:00 am Saturday morning at the sign board at Mace Mill staging area. On Friday
night April 12 at 7:00 pm there will be a public meeting at the Odd Fellows Hall in Georgetown, sponcered by an origination call We The People a group of local citizens concerned about the resent trail and road closures and the law suite brought about by green extremists. All are invite to learn more about what you can do to help. IOOF Hall is on the corner of Wentworth Springs RD and HWY 93, big brick building. Friday Morning April 12 ,10:00 am
there will be a meeting of the Rock Creek Collaborative Forum, at the Georgetown Ranger Station, anyone interested is welcome to join in. This meeting is expected to last until 3:00, we brake for lunch.Weather conditions this time of year could vary, as of now we expect it to be nice. If the area has a Forest Service imposed wet weather trail closure the work day it will be canceled. We will keep you posted by the answering machine at Georgetown Ranger Station post our intentions on Friday evening,
530-333-4312. Vehicles for the weekend, Motorcycle, Car, SUV or truck for traveling to work site. If the trails are open motorcycles will be used to access some remote sites so bring your motorcycles. Some volunteers can car pool by truck or SUVs to trail heads and walking to the work area. People who only
bring a car can hitch a ride. We will make our work group and travel plans
known at Saturday mornings workers meeting.
Bring a back pack for your lunch, drinks, water, rain slicker, and to store your apparel as the day gets warmer. Sturdy work boots, gloves and eye protection are recommended. Since the Forest Service is cosponsoring this outing they require eye protection and hard hats be worn. If you have your own bring it. It is expected that FS will supply hard hats but they could
run short.Tools; the major tool to bring is the Maddox or Mattock- what's is this thing? It can be purchased at most hardware stores. It's like a pick but with a flat blade perpendicular to the handle on one side and an axe or pick on the other. Some old timers refer to this tool as a "Pulaski". Most of our work will be moving dirt, a full size shovel, or a good folding army shovel will do. If one or two members of a work group has a small hand saw and pruning shears this could be useful. Those riding OHV's to work sites must be prepared to carry their own tools, pack frame with bungee cords and some way to cover all sharp edges. We have found walking is easier in that one can quickly detail spots on the trail as you walk along. I'd like to solicit your help in getting as many interested people to help us at Georgetown for the next work day.
The next work event is the weekend of April 13. We are hoping you can make this date. If there is another cancellation will notify by e-mail and the answering machine at the Georgetown ranger station 530-333-4312 check Friday. Also check CERA web site www.cera.org Directions to Georgetown and Rock Creek,
>From Sacramento take HW 50 east to Placerville go left, north on 49 for approximately one mile turn right on 193 to Georgetown you will pass chili bar. At Georgetown turn right on Wentworth Springs road through town, proceed east approximately 7 miles, you will see a small sign on your right which will say Mace Mill staging area and Balderson Rd. This turn off is a 1/4 mile before Camp Virner a small restaurant on the right if you see it go back. About a mile down this road you will take a fork to the left Mace Mill Rd, proceed through a green gate, the staging area is approximately 2 miles down Mace Mill road. Check this out on a road map.
Hope to see you there,
CERA, Rick Guidice

Without taking anything away from what may be a good effort at We the People, do we *NEED* yet another organization?

I have a hard time keeping abreast of the land use issues spread across so many sites, and staying active in so many discrete organizations.

What do new organizations bring to the table that CA4WDC, United, BRC, and FOTR does not currently have -- and why should members of the above-listed organizations divert energy from them to support new organizations? Why also don't the organizers of new orgs just work within one of the MANY existing orgs?

Look, I'll say right out fron that I'm not familiar with We the People, but this question pertains not just to them, but to the greater group of land use orgs.... certainly we need to increase participation. But is the best way to increase individual participation REALLY to continue to proliferate organizations.... or maybe are a handful of MASSIVE organizations better than a billion tiny ones?

Randii, check your fan belt first............:) I must say I agree with you. The Sierra Club has, I think, 3,000,000 members. They all vote with their charge cards, i.e they spend for their cause.

From what I can gather, "We the People" is made up mostly of Georgetown Divide folks. I got the G'town side of the family checking on it as we speak. Details as they come in!

Yeah, I attended. It is a local grass-roots group that was formed to work the access issues in the Eldorado National Forest, with initial, immediate focus on the Rock Creek area. They are committed to working with the over-arching organizations like BRC (and are filed on the Eldo National Forest lawsuit as intereveners, at a peer level to BRC), but are hoping to raise fund and awareness locally to fight the good fight for land access.

Where the hell was the rest of our community? We can't all make every meeting, certainly, but the folks most local to this area need to enage in these meetings and act as our eyes and ears.

I'll post more on this soon both here and on the FOTR mail list.... overall, it was a good meeting, with lots of folks new to the land access fight getting revved up to pitch in. The overall sense that I got was that WTP wants to collaborate with BRC.

To add to what randii said, a couple of local pols attended and have pledged support. I would guess that around 200 people showed up. If you couldn't make it go to the "We the people" website and send them an email with your name and contact information information.
