TexasBlake 04-04-2002, 11:35 AM with a 4banger........ gear is your only ally.
Or you could buy this: http://www.rimmersuperchargers.com/jeep4.html
"Our supercharger system provides you with the power of a 6 cylinder without the weight and economy penalty. "
LOL..... okay Rimmer, for $3495 i could drop a 350 in.
KAcrawler 04-04-2002, 11:56 AM go with a 350 even after all my attempts to change his mind my jeeper111 blew 4300 (installed) on a blower for his pea-shooter it ran like shit, after a month he took it off sent it back and is now in the middle of a 350 swap, do it right the first time don't throw good money after bad
JEEP_TJ_FREAK 04-04-2002, 12:08 PM Yeah your probably on the wrong forum.
Try here for the best 4 banger info 4Bangers' United (http://www.forumco.com/jeffy/default.asp)
Try the one Hooder suggested too.
Don't get me wrong there are quite a few 4 bangers here but it sounds like you need to check up on the basics first.
1RUSTYRIG 04-04-2002, 02:26 PM A few ideas...I kept the 4-banger in my '43 MB and looked into some upgrades to get a little more power.
-After market: ignition, Distrib, Coil - MSD isn't bad..or DUI
-Higher capacity air cleaner - K&N Gen II
-Chip upgrade (if applicable...'89?) see www.hypertec.com
-larger plug wires and performance plugs (bosch +4)
hope this helps

Oh, and don't forget to pick up a pint of turd polish... Seriously dude, you're best off just wheeling, enjoying the decent gas mileage and saving your pennies for an engine with a little more pepperoni...
If you absolutely plan to stick with the 4-banger, gear it real low and don't go overboard on tires and axles...

4BANGERYJ 04-05-2002, 08:54 PM Always go down hills, never up and you should have plenty of power! :flipoff2:

TexasBlake 04-05-2002, 10:38 PM Lets take this apart sentence by sentence....
FIRST OF ALL I AM A NEWBIE ON HERE..
Really, I would have never imagined :D
SO WHAT IVE BEEN AROUND THE WORLD OF WHEELIN FOR A WHIE NOW..
Then why are you asking these kinds of questions?
AND WAY REGARDIN THE 33'S WITH 9 INCHS OF LIFT.. IM LOOKING AT 35'S NOW.. NOT SURE WHAT I WANT TO GO WIH YET..
Hmmmm, if you are having power concerns...... then I sure as hell wouldn't get even bigger tires
AND I WILL EVENTUALLY DROP THE 350 THATS INTHE BURB IN TO THE JEEP WHEN I GET THE BURDS NEW HEART PUMPIN.. BUT ITS NOT A DAILY DRIVER SO IT COULD BE A WHILE YET..
I've read it about 12 times now, and it still doesn't make sense... same with your info too
SO IM LOOKNG AT GAING SOME CHEAP POWER
power 99% of the time does not come cheap
BUT LIKE I SAID ANY INFO FROM U GUYS WILL BE GREATLLY APPERCIATED..
We already gave you help: GEAR THE F**K OUT OF IT
seRob 04-05-2002, 11:20 PM There isn't really all that much that you can do to get power out of a 4 banger cheaply. Just no replacement for diplacement...
Being a guy who's putting big block in a burb you should know that. Regearing is about your best bang-for-the-buck mod that will help, although that's not exactly a "cheap" quick fix. Then again, having a four banger I assume you are running a Dana 35 in the rear of that thing, which opens a whole new can of worms when it comes to lower gears & 35" tires :nuke:
What's gettin you flamed is the sig. Big long sigs with all your mods & those you're gonna do someday are frowned upon here. Mainly because if someone did a search on say... superlift, they didn't want to have to filter through all your posts that have nothing to do with superlift. Sig's show up in searches, dunno why, just the way it is.
I also suggest reading the Jeep mission statement.
twistedspline 04-05-2002, 11:50 PM Indianablake what you doing flaming another newbie when your one yourself??????? Dont get to cocky on her with that status youll get knocked down real quick.....
Oh ya oops with 9 inches of lift you should be running 37's thats alot of lift for little 35's...
Then agine what the hell do i know:rasta:

seRob 04-08-2002, 11:58 AM I was thinking about this the other day, and another thing that might help is if you can find a better cam for it. I've seen aftermarket cams made for lesser motors than the 2.5, so check out summit or JC Whitney, might get lucky.
skinny 04-08-2002, 12:06 PM 4 bangers are gay ass fuck...u my friend are a vaginal secretion and should have never posted this here :rainbow: :rainbow:

One could make the arguement that it takes more skill to wheel a "gay ass fuck" 4-banger...
LordRatner 04-08-2002, 09:14 PM trust me, ive done both, it is harder in a 4 Banger (What I got now)
HighHooder 04-09-2002, 11:04 AM aw, fawk it, just force feed the little thing

I like the rimmer solution;)
kidwired 04-09-2002, 10:48 PM gawdayum!! does anyone have awrite up on that PnP turbo fawk yes!!!
I like my 4 banger, all the torque needed for rock crawlin and I can fill up in folsom, run from loon to tahoe (fawkin around in between), home to sonoma and back and forth to work in santa rosa 2x so stick this in your fuse box :flipoff2:
tube it biyatch $8 at the hardware store 3" pvc, a street L and a rubber adapter to 2.5 inches and some hose clamps, get a kN ru 3130.
get rid of the mechanical fan and go elec.
good exhaust, hi flow cat and muff, no headers, headers wont do any good at low rpm.
weighted flywheel and gears
get a throttle body spacer and throtle body from a 4.0
