: Thinking about placing a duramax into
copasspupil 03-05-2006, 09:48 PM My '85 Suburban and heard from a chevy mechanic that he has seen it done before. So I went on line to find the motor and tranny mounts but no dice? Anyone hear seen it or point me in the right direction??
Thanks,
Danno

here is a 60 page book on how to drop a lb7 into a ck truck.
there are detailed discussions on thedieselpage about it.
tennessee rockhumper 03-05-2006, 10:18 PM by the way, i drive a duramax,(and i love it). but have you seen how many freaking wires, connections and other shoehorned parts are in that thing???? plus they eat injectors for lunch.
for a more realistic conversion, i would drop in a mechanical injected 12v b-series 5.9 cummins and call it a day if i were you.
i could pull a three day drunk and swap in an older cummins and have more reliablity, better gas milage and less money doing it.. im pretty sure im too dumb to install the new duramax stone sober with a manual in my hand
copasspupil 03-05-2006, 10:29 PM Any idea why you need to go with an 88 or newer rig? The 78-91 are the same or that's what I thought. I'm just using the frame for a hummer kit I'm doing and was planning on using a donor D/A for the motor, tranny and the other goodies.
Red Chevy 03-06-2006, 06:43 AM They did it on EXTREME 4x4 on spike TV. Same thing your doing withe a '79 model burban frame and an Urban Gorilla body. See if google will show yoou anything about this. They also had Gale Banks build them a twin turbo Duramax also:smokin:

How many injectors have you replaced in your DMax, and at what mileage? What DMax engine do you have?
Just curious
tennessee rockhumper 03-06-2006, 02:50 PM 3 on the old lb7. under 50,000. they used a bosch generation 1 injector. they are highly susceptable to getting the least bit of trash and water in them and going:nuke:
none on the new LLY. they use a bosch generation 2 injector, so do the new LBZ they are made a little more tolerable than the gen.1 injectors.
GM knows it too. i went by the dealership today and got my new design free fuel filter. GM is giving an upgraded design away and strongly urging everyone to use them. they are even adding a free DIC upgrade to include fuel filter lifespan monitoring like it currently does oil.
i change my filter every ten thousand miles, and only buy desiel at select high volume stations, where i know it doesn't sit for long... and am about to add a secondary filter for insurance. GM considers bad gas to be the oil companies problem, not theirs, but enough people are giving them crap about it for a better designed filter at least.
confederate muscle 03-07-2006, 12:54 PM ok riddle me this someone.....since we are on the subject of swaping diesel motors into or gas chevys. I also heard a guy talk about swapping a cummins into his 88-98 stayle chevy. Im assuming that in doing this youd be looking at a complete overhual on everything from the motor to the tranny and on into the transfer case. Right?
HAs anyone found what all is actually needed to do a swap like this. I cant find shit. none of the searches are bringin up shit.
1967K10 03-07-2006, 04:55 PM For all your info.CrewCab59 on CK5 does Cummins conversions as well as sells motor mounts and Auto World in Missula MT does tons of CTD conversions.I'm doing one in my brothers 67' K20 4x4 but I'm building all the stuff myself.I had considered doing one in the 97' 2500 I had but that requires either a body lift or a SAS. Instead I bought a D-Max and mod'd it.Man it's fast.Fun to be able to beat muscle cars and ricers with a 8700 flatbed truck on 33"s :cool2: . As to the D-Max swap go to DieselPlace.com and PM Nick04Duramax.He put a
D-Max/nv4500/205 in an 88' V3500 Crew Cab 4x4. It's a sled pulling truck. Also Huckstorf Diesel is either doing one or planning to do one soon.Merchant Automotive is installing one in an 02' Furd Powerstroke  that the PSD blew up on.
whitetrash84 03-08-2006, 07:35 PM i am thinking about putting a dmax in an 84 chevy...funny i found this thread.
copasspupil 03-11-2006, 08:47 PM I couldn't find him here. Is he somewhere else that I need to be directed to?
POWERSTROKEN 03-12-2006, 04:47 AM I have seen the CTD swap into an older Suburban it was a early 70's body.

Who couldn't you find? Let me know and I'll correct the info if that's the problem.
CrewCab59 03-13-2006, 11:30 AM Thanks 1967k10
- I do Cummins Diesel conversions ,I do engine mod as well.
- I sell Engine mounts,Engine Crossmembers for 73-93 GM straight axle trucks,88-99 IFS trucks.
- No body lifts are used when doing a Cummins conversion. The 73-91 has a small section cut out of the frame to clear the Dodge A/C commpressor.
-The 88-99 have the torsion bar member mod and floor mod but you won't see it.
I have done a conversions on 95 Suburban 1/2 and the stock drive train will hold the weightand the power. The Cummins was turned up as well.
Thanks
