spent the w/e on a ranch near Gerlach, NV and spied this old workhorse. No hubs, but front drive flange. full floater in rear. Three dash plates-- a txfr case map, a Willys and a Ford, which is last in the pix. The "Ford" is barely visible at top of plate. Hillbilly grille guard. Date code is 1944. I used to have a 42 GPW and thought they stopped military production soon thereafter... so can this be a GPW or was the Ford plate added? My old GWP had the script F on rear of tub, this one does not. This one still has the front black out lights and the axe/shovel combo on driver side.

I sure miss my old flattie...

ideas on an ID of this classic?
thanks

check some of the parts on it. every GPW had the ford symbol just about everywhere. body panels ever part on the lights I mean everywhere. if it has ford on pretty much everything its a GPW.

My gpw has a build date of 44,The big "F" script didnt last very long(corporete politics between willy's,ford & government)
IIRC mb had round front xmember and gpw had square front xmember
and as was said ford was proud and scripted every thing they could

check out the rear toolboxes.

If they are stamped, it is a GPW.

Look at the front crossmember on the frame. If it's round, then its a Willys, if it's and inverted "U" then it's a GPW.
