I was just wondering if anyone had any pics of their front shock mounts
I want to put in bigger shock mounts and I need to know what they look like first. I know you can use ones off a ford or something like that so if you have any pics can you please post them for me Thanx Chubby:bounce: :bounce2: :jeep:

i did the ford shock tower but i welded them on level with the bottom of the frame-rail so i had to hack into the inner fender. no big deal with a sawzall and i dont really need the darn inner fender anyway right?!? but the shock towers were something like 11$ a piece at the ford dealership. you can bolt them on but i found that the bolt holes for correct placement of the shock tower would put me right into one of the engine mounts and i was tired that night so i just welded the sheits on!! beat them pretty good and the welds are still holding!! happy day:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :smokin:

Ford towers are dealer part number E5TZ-18183-A (I've got it memorized ;).) and cost $8.74 each plus shipping from http://www.fordpartsonline.com/immediate.htm - I think I paid around $25 total for the ones on my Toyota:

Depends where you put your lower mount and how high you mount the upper mount. I have my lower mount welded to the u-bolt plate and my upper mount is about even with the frame. I have stock YJ springs SPOA and my shocks are 30" extended and 17" compressed. ~Steve

ya dude, there's a lot of variables involved.
(too many to say: "run this exact shock part number 12345")

i have (for now) the stock upper mount position, but the lower mounts are welded as low as they can on the axle tube, instead of having the upper mount way up and the lower mount at the spring/u-bolt plate location.

i just measured everything and went to Napa and poked through their shock books until i found some with the extended/compressed numbers i wanted.(cheap ass Monroes, and my Sammy has never ridden so plush:D )

this will change when one day i, too, go for the ford upper shock mounts. then i may........uhhh...."spring" for some NBA tall 9000's i don't know.:)

here's a stupid question: why would you want the upper shock tower angled back? is this for a S/R only? you'd think that with normal shackle location the shock itself would bind up.
i'm just really tired and hungover right now, so feel free to call me stoopid.

I had a Calmini S/R with stock springs SPOA before the YJs (non-S/R Trail Tough kit) When I tried to mount the shocks straight up and down, they hit the spring mounting plates. I'm running DT 8000 prerunners and they have a thick shock body, so instead of finding smaller diameter shocks I leaned the towers back to compensate. Even now I might have to trim the corners off the TT spring plates for extra clearence(5 minutes with a grinder):smokin: Also the shocks won't bind because they piviot on the bushing, I've seen shocks laid back to 45* and not bind on a non-S/R front end.......Have another:beer: and get rid of that hangover, works for me everytime:D
