: My new dash (or lack of)

Here is a project I have been working on for a little bit now...

I have been chopping at the firewall since the day I bought it trying to gain a little more visability. After alot of chopping it just looked like ass and still didnt have the visibility I required. I decided to scrap the whole thing and start over mounting everything as close to center as possible where I couldnt see anyways because of the motor.

I mounted the computer inside a small ammo can, moved my airfilter behind the motor, mounted the ARB compressor on the back of the ammo can, and made a small switch panel.

I took one look at the wiring harness that was left and knew I couldnt thin it myself without ripping out my hair. I got ahold of Sean at Aftermarket4x4, he quoted me a great price and I shipped it out to him the next day. I was very impressed that he called me as soon as he got it and started right away cutting it down to my specification.

I also decided that the hood was blocking my line of sight so that got tossed too.

Heres a couple pics...

Im still waiting on the wiring harness to get back from Aftermarket4x4, but as soon as it does everything should be labeled for easy intallation and much less of a nightmare!

Looks good, any plans to protect the engine at all?

no plans of yet to protect the motor. I have flopped this rig at least 15 times and have never come close to puting the motor in danger. Maybe later I will run a couple tubes across the motor, but for now I just want to get the wiring finished and go wheel it.

I am very interested how these new tires will do. They are the Pitbull Rockers 37X13.5. They look mean as hell and I hope they work well in our neck of the woods

The plans for a new buggy have been halted. Im still looking, but its so much cheaper to keep this one and it seems to do pretty damn well!

When are you coming down to beat on your junk Todd?

When are you going to the hammers next? I was thinking of going on the 19th of March if I can get my t-case fixed.

Matt, that looks about 100 times better! I might have to look into doing something like that to mine.

Thanks wayne, not only did it give me better visability, but it allowed me to drop my seats a couple inches as well

I'm looking to drop my seats 4" and get rid of the dash and dash bar above it. I figure I'll gain a 6" lower dash area. Then I can chop the roof line down.:smokin:

In retrospect I would have dropped my seats all the way down, then mounted the steering. But I had already hard mounted the steering wheel before deciding to drop the seats

Update: I have always been worried about my passengers safety. When Im getting a little sideways I'll yell, "HANG ON," and relize they really dont have anything to HANG on too. So I build an adjustable handlebar out of 1/2" black pipe which was the perfect size for handlebar grips. I wanted it to be adjustable from fully collapsed to pretty far out so if I have a kid riding he wont have to strech to far. I did my best to mount it low incase of an extreme rollover the passengers head doesnt have a good chance of tagging it:D

the computer and excess wiring tuck into the ammo can quite nicely. Aftermarket4x4 did a killer job stripping down the harness and labeling everything VERY well. I had one small problem with it draining my battery, but Sean returned my phone call right away and was eager to get me going again. After a little trial and error the problem was fixed. Thanks again Sean for a killer job!
