: making a draglink

Ok, I'm installing my crossover steering and need to get a draglink that has ends for heim joints. Most all the ones sold are tapped for chevy ends or fj 80. My arms are set up for heim. Who sells the inserts that I can weld into DOM tubing threaded for heim joints? Or who sells a good heim joint draglink?

speedway motors
tc race car
stock car products
jegs

the pricing will be better because of the quantities they sell

All Pro sells custom length links for $75. Just let us know how long to make it. Just takes a couple of days.

I'd like the challenge of making my own (fits my budget best) Would 1"OD .156 wall DOM tubing be strong enough for a drag link?

best if you have access to a lathe with thru-spindle capability, but you can do it by hand.

the Hiem joints you will want to use are 5/8" x 3/4" that means they have a 5/8" hole through the ball and a 3/4" stud end.

These joints have 3/4-16 thread so you will need to locate a left and right hand thread tap. the rod ends usually come with a jam nut.

Use the 1-1/8" .250" wall DOM tubing for strength/safety. this is what I use and I can jack up my front end by the tie rod.

You must drill the end of the tubing to the correct size for the tap, I think it's 11/16" for the 3/4-16 tap but it will be printed on the tap.

ONLY use DOM tubing, it is seamless and much stronger (read expensive, like $9 per foot).

Go here and check out my tie rods with hiem joints:

I wouldn't run anything smaller than 1.25"x .5" wall for drag links. I'm running Bent and Twisted Rods, 1.5" tie rod and 1.25" drag link.

I'm having one made by a local shop with 1.5" DOM 1" ID tubing with inserts. I ordered some Heim joints from Avalanche, I may even have it done for the Jambo!

I bought my DOM tubing 1 1/2" od for $.79 lb. It came out to 7 bucks for just over 3 feet.!
