: How to make a Power Steering Bracket

Since I am running out of time (Moab in a couple days) I decided to just stay with the Celica pump for now, but I still had to make a new bracket or method for tensioning the belt now that the A/C compressor was removed. As luck would have it I had held on to the tensioner that came with the A/C kit so all I had to do was make a bracket to mount the Celica pump down lower on the block. Here's a couple pics, there's a short write up on my site as well.

Started with a plate.

Welded a gusset to the bottom of the plate. The local steel shop has a lot of cool pre-cut steel pieces, the gusset was .50 cents, you can also get little 4x4 steel plates and tabs with holes in them for cheap too.

The hard part (if you don't have access to a mill) is the mounting plate for the pump, I just traced my CSC plate and used a 3/4" roughing end mill to hog out the material to make a nice looking plate :rasta:

Mounted it back to the block along with a handy little .12 cent tab, weld the tab to make a three point mounting system for the bracket. Gussett as needed (one under the tab and one up top between the first plate and the pump mounting plate).

Add some paint and your done.

You must have access to a plasma or laser cutter. Those radius cuts on your brackets are much better than standard backyard jigsaw.

3/4" roughing end mill and a belt sander, I also used a smaller end mill to make the lower slot, forgot what the diameter was. You could get close with a drill and grinder, but it wouldn't look as pretty.

I really gotta get around to fixing my plasma cutter. I think one of the PCBs is blown (again). Working with holes saws, grinders and sandpaper sucks...
