Pee-wee has been picked up by a trucker
Pee-wee: Some night, huh?
Large Marge: On this very night, ten years ago, along this very stretch of road in a dense fog just like this. I saw the worst accident I ever seen. There was this sound, like a garbage truck dropped off the Empire State Building... And when they pulled the driver's body from the twisted, burning wreck. It looked like this...
Turns to Pee-wee and makes grotesque face
Pee-wee: Aaaaaahh!
Large Marge: Yes, Sir, the worst accident I ever seen.

(sorry, my kid loves Pee Wee, admittedly i've seen that movie more times than i care to even say)

PT...let us know when you hit SLC :cool2:

I'm afraid to respond to this post!

Keith's right, we saw a horrible crash right behind us East of Moline. This yahoo comes zoomin' up on Shopboy. In the time it took me to see if we could get out of his way, the next thing I see is this truck tumbling through the air with the driver flying free! It was yet another life changing experience.

We were hoping to make it to Cheyenne this evening, but we spent too much time hangin' out with Keith :flipoff2: We're hoping for an early start tomorrow morning and with luck, will make it to SLC in time for some beer and beef with Marc and Mike. We're in North Platte right now, about 600 miles out from SLC, but at 75 MPH (it's all the faster the "Shop on wheels" (Keith's comment) will go) we have a chance of being there by 1700 hours.

Peace,
PT

Just drove home from Logan to SLC in a pretty bad snowstorm. I was wondering if PT is gettin' it...and had a message when I got home.

He's in the middle of WY and doesn't know if he'll get to SLC tonight.

He reports 'lots of carnage on the road'. Keep him and his boy in your thoughts...it is serious business crossing from Cheyenne in the nasty weather.

Marc,

I'm thinking what I might do is when he calls tell him to plan on spending the night in Rock Springs. I need to swap him an engine for a t-case, so I'm going to offer to meet him in Ogden along I-84 if he decides to go that way.

He has a few options right now, and my hope is that he just takes the quickest safest option. I have nothing scheduled for tomorrow, so maybe we could both drive up there and meet him. You could come over and help me load it into the back of the RR if you wanted. :D

PT just called, I-80 is closed at mm 39 in WY. They're in Green River right now and he wants to go back to Rock Springs to get a room for the night.

I can't seem to get any accurate information on what road crews are doing, so I thought he made a prudent decision to not gamble with heading west.

He'll call when he gets to GR and figure out what's going to happen tomorrow.

revor
03-12-2006, 06:21 PM
I 80 is typically a mess during this type of storm as experienced by many years of going north for Sledding (900 CC 175 hp sleds) There have been times that just driving at 30 mph with a four place enclosed trailer behind a well equiped F350 we've been blown off the highway..

Best to stay in GR or RS...

That's where the Wind River blows all the snow down to the Snowy Range...

PT update: 9:42 mst

They decided to get to Evanston last night, arrived about 2am. Slept in this morning, had the phone off (I was right...). Leaving Evanston shortly.

Roads in Utah are snowpacked until he drops down from the summit, looking like about 2-ish hours before he gets to SLC.

Marc - he wants to see my 'fleet', so he's coming here. He's requesting an engine hoist to get it into the back of his truck, so I'm heading up the street to my neighbor's to steal his for the morning.

I'll call you in case you've left...

PT and Colin just left at 3:00 mst. After a flurry of engine swapping, t-case aquiring, e-brake cable pilfering and stew eating, they were off.

Seems like they were gone very quickly, but in reality stayed almost 2 hours.

Marc, sorry I didn't call...things started getting pretty hectic and between all of the equipment to be moved around (and discovering one of his motors had snapped the bolts off of the engine stand...), they had to run.

Anyway, their goal is to get to Ontario tonight...I'm betting they stay in Boise.

Is this the one? A 60 year old woman driving.
Taken from the Quad City Times, scene near Moline, IL, March 11 report.

ANNAWAN, Ill. — A driver of an SUV was killed Friday afternoon after losing control on Interstate 80 near here.

Illinois State Police said they responded at 4:28 p.m. to the one-vehicle crash in Henry County. The driver of a 1992 Ford SUV lost control, drove off the roadway, and rolled over, ejecting the driver.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henry County coronor. The name of the victim was not being released Friday pending notification of relatives, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

You guys are slack... Pendy and Keith may remember my roadtrip from Denver to Georgie in 24 hours, because all flights in and out of Denver were cancelled.

It was quite funny, I left Keith's place Saturday afternoon, and asked him if the forecast 3' of snow would be a problem for my plane taking off in the morning. He replied that in Denver they were used to snow like that, and they would just move it out of the way and get on with it. :D famous last words...

The snow started about 4am. Every flight from about 6am until the next 24 hours was cancelled. I ended up hiring a dodge "sports" car (with california plates), and driving it non-stop to Georgia. There was up to 1' of snow all the way to the CO/KA border!!! The whole way I was doing about 20-30 with the speedo reading 50-60 :D

Anyway - good luck with the rest of the trip.
