I have a line on a rolled 97 sidekick 4x4 with a 1.8L enigine for $700. Has anyone done this swap into a Sammi. I tried searching but nothing conclusive.

This will have OBDII right. How bad is it to deal with?

Are there other cool parts in this rig? I'm not sure if it is an auto or stick. Since hey did not say I'm guessing stick.

I found these specs:

Engine
Type 1.8-liter, four-cylinder, in-line
16-valve DOHC
Block material Aluminum
Bore x Stroke 3.31 in. x 3.27 in. (84 mm x 83 mm)
Displacement 112.0 cu. in. (1.8 L)
Compression ratio 9.8:1
Induction system Electronic multi-point fuel injection
Horsepower (SAE net) 120 hp @ 6500 rpm
Torque (SAE net) 114 lb.-ft. @ 3500 rpm

Mike Shaffer runs a 1.8L, that would be my motor of choice.:)

Isn;t the 1.8 a totally different block? It is not a "bolt in" swap like the 1.6 would be. But hey 120 hp!!

That motor is horrible...you dont want it..send it to me and save yourself the headaches ;). Fatty is right Shaffer runs that motor, and I think Rick at Hawk has done it (as well as the 2.0).

As to the OBD II, it is a lot more complicated than others. My 16v is OBD I, my buddy Bobaki has a OBD II 16v. My stock harness was scary, his was terrifying. After TT reworked my harness, it was no big deal at all. Bobaki had someone else rework his OBD II and he says its stilll scary.

I emailed Trail Tough about the wiring, and I thought the response was worth posting.

-----------

The 1.8 is not a clean conversion. Though it could be installed in a rock buggy, the block height, bell housing and flywheel diameter on these motors is too large for the tunnel of a Samurai. Therefore, we do not do this conversion due to its impracticality.

Thanks, Brent

I found a rolled 97 Sidekick with a 120HP 1.8L engine for cheap. I was thinking about swapping the engine into a Samurai. Have you ever done this or know of people who have? I'm pretty sure it is OBDII. Can you offer any help with the wiring?

Thanks,
Jim
