Got a buddy with an '89 pickup with 22R-E, and the fuel injection is acting up. If he gives it light throttle when accelerating from rest, it will surge, kind of like what happens when a 15 year old girl is first learning how to drive a stick. it will also do this when coasting slowing in gear. Once hard on the throttle, the problem goes away. I hate EFI, it scares me to crap, why is it doing this? Thanks.:usa:

It sounds like a bad EGR valve. Try disabling it by pulling/plugging the vacuum line going to it and see if the prob goes away. Might want to check and see if the throttlebody needs cleaning too.:)

Does it high idle when it is cold? If not, this could be the Aux. Air Control Valve.

If it's an '89 22RE it should not have an aux air valve. They changed the t-body design that year and got rid of the valve
