: Dudes I just bought 37" MT/R's
Cliffy [JD] 04-05-2002, 08:16 AM I forgot that it would be a tight fit getting 35's while flexing. 37's are gonna be a bitch with just a SOA. And since I bought the tires I surely can't afford 2" springs
Maybe I need to get a 2" body lift  or more fender trimming
Amyway I'm stoked about the tires, thought i'd let you guys know ;):bounce2: :bounce:

CUT IT. Tub the back, and take 3" out of the front fenders.. c'mon, if I can do it...
troutbum 04-05-2002, 09:14 AM I am going to go the same route and I want to stay with stock leaves and SOA...it's a hell of a lot of trimming, break out the sawzall and post some pics so I can see what it will look like..:flipoff2:
jdjanda 04-05-2002, 09:26 AM How much and from where did these tires come?
Cliffy [JD] 04-05-2002, 10:17 AM I jumped on the All Pro deal. $209 Ea+shipping (I know they're on sale chaper other places, but read the thread, and you'll know why I bought from them.)
TSM1MT~ I think that will be the route I go, (you fit 36's using that method right?) but I don't know if that will be done in time for RMIHR. :usa:

Yep, 36s with 4" of lift and a sagging body.
The fronts were relatively easy - at least it didn't involve as much tear-out/clean-up/work as the rear is going to require.
For now I just trimmed the rear edge of the quarter and put in bump stops.. I really should put body mounts in the thing before I go and cut out the wheel tubs.. :D

.. :D
Well it shouldn't be too bad. I expect 5-6" of lift since I'm going to 3/4ton axles vs. the smaller diam. 1/2 ton ScoutII stuff. And maybe I'll look into making some Slightly taller shackles. We'll see

My Chevy 3/4T D44 isn't any "bigger" than my Scout '44.. the axle tube is thicker, but so is the 1/2T D44 tubes (1/2" thick vs. the 3/8" SII tubes)
Go with a 1" body lift before you start raising it *too* high.. more under-hood clearance and lower COG..
Cliffy [JD] 04-05-2002, 03:42 PM Well that's good to know. This is what i'm thinking for a *little * more lift.
I'm gonna get qty-8, 2-1/2" wide leaf springs. cut them down to about 4-5" (with the center hole CENTERED) and put them on the bottom of my leaf pack. I got really long threaded center bolts that you cut to your desired length (based on spring pack thickness *as I'm sure you know*)
This way I can get about 1 or 1-1/2" extra lift to help me clear the larger tires. but without the drawbacks of lift blocks (body or suspension)

Speaking of under hood clearance... I'm running (trying to run) an aftermarket (auto zone cheapie) 1" tall air cleaner. The the short ass thing still hits my hood. :(
What do you guys run. I'm thinking of just fabbing my snorkel now instead of later

Heck, I just ordered a 2" spacer for my air filter.. but then, I have a big hole in the hood.. I'll be able to fit a big 14" closed Chevy housing. More air flow, less water intake. :D
That's all on top of the spacer under the carb, too.
I'd like to find a good "snorkel" type box - either with a filter in it, or with a remote filter, that I can hook a hose up to for air inlet.
I'd like to route the air intake on the racer to the old heater duct area.
I'd like another similar style setup for my tow-rig, but I want to route the air intake down behind the headlight/bumper - it's a mile-long 2wd, I won't be fording many rivers..
Cliffy [JD] 04-05-2002, 04:33 PM I got an air intake tube (thingy) off of the saab I had for about a month (same place I got my MED. stroke York)
The intake tube thing happens to be the EXACT diam as the 4bbl QJ Air cleaner mount surface. It caps the carb and then make a 90* turn and about a 30* turn towards the rear IIRC.
Now I just need to figure out how to secure it to the carb without vibrating off. The only thing I can think of is a large hose clamp (like for a dryer vent)
Anyway It was free it looked cool and it fit the carb. I think I can make it work.:rasta:
If I do use it I'm gonna run it up the A-pillar
mtndewmaniac 04-05-2002, 07:37 PM Typically all that secures an intake tube to a carb, (or TB) is a hose clamp of appropriate size. I would like to check it out the next time I come back up there.
Cliffy [JD] 04-05-2002, 08:49 PM I think Jeenjer is coming up to do the SOA (what's that? hehehe) Swap next weekend (the 13th) you're welcome to come along.
I know it doesn't really take 3 people, but the more the merrier :D:D
mtndewmaniac 04-05-2002, 09:12 PM Sounds like a good idea, maybe there will be some  this time:question: just kidding. But I would like to see that binder on 37s, but I would also like to see 37s on a Camry.:flipoff2: I'll PM jer to get the info.
