I don't have my title in front of me but it's either a 85 or an 89. This is one of the qty 92 that were inported by a New Jersey company. Powered by a FI 2.3l Ford ranger motor. Has a Ford 4-sp trans and H-L transfer case also out of a Ranger. I'll post pictures if I can figure out how. If you google "hunter ARO 244" you'll find site that post pictures of other AROs along with the 244. This vehicle is the short wheelbase SUV style with four doors. It kind of looks like a cross between a Mercedes Gwagon and a first generation Trooper. I have the Kansas non hiway use title signed off by the dealer that sold it to me and you will get a bill of sale from me. This is a very interesting truck that turn heads primarily because no one has ever heard of one or seen one before. My intent was to build an oddball trail rig but I have too many projects ahead of it. Front brakes already converted to GM calipers with Ford discs. IFS with very long A-arms, leaf sprung rear. Ford 5x5.5 lug wheels. Rear axle looks like a Ford 9" copy but is a full floater. Runs and drives just fine but is a little scary at hiway speeds because of the short wheelbase and somewhat worn front suspension. Being sprung way too stiff does not help. Be the only guy on your street, county, or state to have an ARO of your own. Romanian made so don't expect any dealer support. Kansas City area.

ARO's supposedly will be sold in the U.S. as Crosslander 244X's.
Here's a link with pics of the thing.

bb93yj, Thanks for that link. I had forgoten all about Crosslander as they have been promising deliveries for about four years now. But, if you go to there home page the picture nearest the top of the page looks like mine.

Yeah, I've been watching this whole drama for the last few years. The Crosslander website won't open up to anything now except a note that says something like "Updates coming soon" How's that for definite?:D

A few months ago you could look at all the specs on the model, had a picture gallery, and under the "News" tab that was on the site, was a blurb that the truck had passed federal crash test and I think EPA testing, then it went to what it shows now, nothing...

There's actually a Crosslander Dealership here in Texarkana, but, only vehicles he has on his lot are used, overpriced domestic stuff.

I kinda hope they manage to get it up and going, seems like a decent vehicle, after all, ARO's were the humvee of the Russian military.

I looked at the site right after your post and it came up fine. It was clear that it had not been updated for years on some of the pages. I called them and the women who answered the phone seemed surprised that I had done so. The whole ARO saga is actually pretty funny but you're correct about the truck being very stout. I talked to a guy that got burned on a ARO dealership a while back by a smooth talking Romanian guy driving a black, Toyota powered 244 who was taking cash deposits for dealerships. Then there was the diesel powered AROs and now Crosslander.

As long as I'm bumping my own stuff I maight add that I would be interested in a dual sport or off road motorcycle or other trades like some mowing equipment. Email me at johnsbmw@gmail.com

Notice the long arse A-arms. Some softer springs and this thing might actually work.

I'll bump my own junk just because it's been a month since the last time. Buy my truck so that I'll have room for another one.
Thanks, John
