I Have An 87 Xj
I Just Bought A Leaf Sprung 30 With 4.56, Arb, And Lock Cable (to Replace The Vaccum Canister)
Need To Swap Into My Factory Link Housing
Any Advice Or Special Tricks I Should Know Before Starting?
Familiar With D44s And D60s, But New To 30s

Housings are tight, (with stock preload)
dummie bearings are nice, just like any other
Uses a crush sleeve on the pinion. Only real difference.
Other wise, same shit, different pile.

D30's don't have crush sleeves, shims are used to set the pre-load on the pinion bearing.
Will you be replacing the pass. side axle too with a one piece unit?

The one I built last month had a crush sleeve.

The new ARB for the Dana 30 runs the shims on the outside of the carrier bearings. Don't waste your time making setup bearings until you make sure which side of the bearing your ARB runs the shims.

yup. It was in a TJ if that makes any difference. not sure if there were differences from the older Ford/Jeep versions.

Looks like that's just a TJ thing. Look at the paragraph title Wrangler Dana 30 in the 2nd to last sentance.
